2021 Draft Thread

Why am I feeling so angry that we’ve drafted the wrong person before the draft has even started?

Will Martyn, Jack Ross, RCD & Dow all drafted as inside mids or at least clearance players..

A brief pre-draft profile on Dow:

For Dow, his clearance work and ability to move well on the inside is a key feature of his game

I stand corrected. Jack Ross in particular would tick all the boxes of a traditional inside mid.

Would you consider the others to be more hybrids than inside?

I love those types of mids who aren't easily categorised as inside or outside. E.g. What is Shai? He's a bit of everything!

That would be a great outcome. Personally I can't see Erasmus getting that far though.
Is Erasmus that good? Question marks on whether he will translate into a mid at AFL level.

Then there is question marks over the go home factor?

The Sonz a far better prospect.

Yeah. Have never quite been able to settle on Erasmus this whole year. One moment I’m ok with him…the next less so. One of the more unpredictable kids. Bargain boom or bust. Very hard to say with the Raz. 2klm testing was encouraging though.

The site formerly known as afldraftcentral have dropped their phantom, possibly the latest of all coming just a couple of hours before the event itself. They’ve got us taking Gibcus and Sonsie (who they think Sydney are keen on).

We aren't drafting 1st round for needs and by the time Gibcus would be ready for consistent AFL footy he will definitely fill a need.
Exactly.
It’s as if some people want to wait until we have no one left to play in the backline before they say “Oh, we better add a KPD to our list”

15 and 28 for their 11 and a 2022 3rd rounder. That might get us a Johnson or Sonsie. Gibcus (or Hobbs) and Johnson/Sonsie sounds better to me than Rachele and Brown/ Wilmot or whomever.
Imagine Gibcus-Hobbs,,the best kp defender and the best inside mid :)

Then add Macdonald and the underrated Williams .

The thought of trading up for Rachele is tantalising. The kid's got velcro hands and a rocket-powered laser guidance system in his feet.

yeah, he may not be the best player in the draft,

but theres a decent chance hes the best at kicking 4 in a quarter.

when Nathan Brown came, we hadn't had a player like him for 20 years and we havnt had one since. John Northey was probably the last?

in that sense, Rachelle is possibly the most likely to be a 1 every 40 year player at Tigerland. For some reason, the mercurial game busting HFF eludes us?

Wouldn’t mind Rachele, to be honest. I am not convinced we need mids. I think we need talls and dangerous players.

He sounds dangerous.

So is Sonsie, Toots. It's good news that Sydney love him. Kinnear Beetson's a smart man.

I think the Rachele trade is unlikely.

Gibcus, Sonsie, then trade two 20s picks to Norf for 20 and 47 and grab Butler, Williams/JVR and Fejo/Jones.

Where’s that genuine contested ball winning mid we desperately need though ?
