It's a stupid, illogical & totally unnecessary rule that goes against the very nature of Australian Rules Football as it WAS played for over 150 years.

I hate the "spectacle" that the game now is, frankly I find it unwatchable, I tried 3 to watch different games over the weekend & lasted 15 minutes in total.

It's not real footy anymore imo.
I am convinced the AFL are trying to make the AFL a different game to that of Aussie Rules.

AFL will be only played by the elite

The rest of the plebs will play Aussie Rules

Who was waving arms? Maybe we didn't see it on TV but I can't recall a single time a player from either side did anything like that yesterday.
I saw it a few times. It shouldn’t be penalised, either. They don’t move off the mark, they just swing their arms around, or should it be more correctly called the ‘statue’ rule? If they’re going to go that far why bother even manning the mark?

What I don’t get with how teams now cope with the stand rule is getting the MOTM to move 5 metres away from the actual mark but they still can’t move! They still just man the mark. Don’t understand the point.
Think that by standing five metres back from the mark it still enables the person " on " the mark to have some influence if the player attempts to play on or dish off short to a run past team mate. It simply allows for a little more reaction time for the maggot to firstly call play on and the person on the mark to move forward or sideways as needed to try and get involved. If standing stagnant on the actual mark he's already two or three paces out of involvement n influence by the time the maggots get around to invoking play on.

Times a 1000. It’s a bastardised version of it for us old fools who used to watch other games no matter who was playing back then.

Sydney cop a free kick count tonight that imitates the last 100 games for our club and the whole industry is melting. Yet not a peep on our account from any of them. Just goes to show the salt is still strong.

Now clubs counter the stand rule by having the MOTM move a further 5m back (ie 10 metres off the mark) makes me wonder why it’s a further 5m, shouldn’t it just be 1metre (ie 6 metres) ?

Is this extra 5metres an arbitrary figure or is it in the rules book?

Who knows, the 2021 rules are the latest I can find on the AFLUA site, maybe I'll have to delve into the AFL site.

Edit: ok, went to the AFL site and now I am truly impressed - the laws of the game page starts with a video about the 2017 rules and has a pile of videos down the bottom of the page, all from 2017. But, but, there is a link to the 2021 rules. F Me they are an incompetent bunch, see this page: https://www.afl.com.au/about-afl/laws-of-the-game

On the rule changes page a pile of AFLW rules are mixed in with the Men's rules and a lot of them are not labelled as AFLW specific rules.

It is such a mess.

Well DS,

If the footy fans and public can’t easily find and interpret the rules, then the AFL can use them any way they like and we cant argue the case or critise the umps cause we don’t have anything to back up our arguments.

Shocking has left that place in a worse condition than when he arrived. Created a problem that didn’t really exist and then kept introducing rules without proper trails and testing - he didn’t even follow AFL policy.

I agree, the AFL is a bit of a mess.

The tackle Dangerfield did that wasn't called.
The 360' on Elliott holding the ball again not called and Adams constantly throwing or scooping of the ball.
I can't believe Collingwood supporters whinge about umpires

The bigger issue is our poor discipline. Kills our momentum and lets the opponent back in. This game went arse over tit after Ben Long’s goal when Pickett was sucked in by Butler. Coaches and players need a big wakeup call.

I'll say I'm sure most of our players have that little anxious thought in their head in that these dumpires are going to pin them in 50-50 situations which causes bad disposal or tackle. We see this against us too often.
