This has the potential be the most wasteful year we've ever had as club - we are capable of winning the flag and we will likely finish 9th.

How can we be capable of winning the flag? We have a dud coach, dud assistant coaches, poor fitness staff, bad list management, too many washed up players, no good young players, a poor culture, too many selfish players and no composure. Im sure there are more facts I have learnt on here, that I cant be bothered to list right now. With all that we cant be near contending, can we?

I wish it was that simple. Port will be very hard to beat at home. Bris will hard to beat, even the bummers and hawks have improved heaps. If we make it we will deserve it.

Port lose to pies at the G and say we beat the lions means with 3 games remaining Port will basically be 3 games out of the 8. So on the proviso, we beat the lions, id back us against port as we would be playing for more than what they would be if they lose to the pies.

I am expecting us to beat the lions considering we have won 15 from the past 17 against them. The lions also haven't won at the G since 2014.
Lynch back and Sheddas 300th.

Hawks and Bombers, I think they will be more concerned with draft ladder positioning than killing themselves to win games at end of the season. Regardless if we beat lions and port id back us to beat both hawks and bomber at the G

Reckon Scott would just about tank against the dogs to help eliminate us from the finals.

I have no doubt we can cause problems if we were to make it. The issue is actually making the finals at this point.

Be extremely difficult to make the 8

In my mind, we're definitely making finals.

We haven't been outplayed for several months now. Not once.

Our defence is getting tighter with Tarrant settling in beautifully now.

We have star players about to come back

And we have a handful of promising young players to play a role like the Townsend/Graham types did late in 2017.

Overall, we're one of the in-form teams of the AFL over the 2nd half of the season and nobody has found a way to dismantle our system.

The only question in recent pages of this thread comes from a couple of close games going the other way. But a coin toss going the other way doesn't affect the outcome of next week's game.

There's a 12.5% chance of flipping tails 3 times in a row, but if you read the newspapers, the AFL media will paint the story as if we're now a 12.5% of winning any close game. It's misleading, and it invites negative thinking. For example, on match day their pre-game showed footage of us vs Freo from 2005 or so. See how far back they reached to manufacture a story to set expectations for what's in our future?

The RFC writes this story. And the only thing this group hasn't done is win a premiership from outside the top 4 - to win a premiership the hard way.

Everything is lining up for us to tick that box.

Nice and balanced view 123Cups. I think we can play finals and do some serious damage if we are there. Not one team will want to play us.

Not a chance H, Cats are backing themselves in and playing well they won't risk purposely dropping a game coming to the business end of the season.
It's way too tight at the top. Drop one game and you can easily find yourself 3rd or 4th and perhaps then having to travel in the first week of finals. They will beat the dogs at GMHBA stadium.

All the positive thinking in the world wont help.
This year and last year have been very very poor.

So we play 3 of the next 4 at the G' and haven't lost there since round 6 if we take out the match where Dion played half a quarter vs the cats. Port away will be our hardest game but they aren't the same team of the past 2 years so we are a very good chance to win. There are no excuses from here on out and 4 out of 4 wins are required.

We're a very good side this year but I fear things will conspire against us.
There's no benefit whatsoever for the AFL to see another Richmond Premiership.

Top 4 looks a bit less likely after yesterday's narrow loss. Even making the 8 is not a certainty.
Proud of yesterday's efforts but Flags are so hard to achieve. Just keep winning Tiges.
Good call.

No finals this year.

The optimism and positive thinking here is commendable - wish I could get some cause I reckon we have done our dash.

The way the cookie is crumbling I reckon next week people will still be confident that we can win 4 of the last 3 games to make it. ;)

My view:

If we qualify then we can do some damage
IF we don’t - we didn’t deserve to be there

If we can win the last 4 and make the 8 we would be going in with form and likely can do some damage. Not sure we can go all the way though.

With Geelong, I can understand the logic of saying they would drop a game to keep us out of the 8. I'd almost believe at times in the 2017-2020 period, we just seemed to find ways to beat them in September. Even when they comfortably beat us in the H&A they knew we were a different prospect in finals. But Geelong have changed, they just seem less desperate this year. There has been a wiff of desperation about them at times, but that seems to have dissipated. Geelong are favourites at the moment and look more like they are the team to beat than they have for 10 years.

While we can talk about how we should have/could have won more games this year, the reality is that we lost a close one to North, that shouldn't have been close, North are rubbish, we have also lost close games to other teams who should not be near us, Adelaide and StKilda spring to mind. Yeah, we should have won more of the close games, but a few of them should not have been close in the first place. Inconsistency is killing us.

Some of the attitude I saw in Lambo's retirement speech I hope rubs off too. We need to get back to enjoying the game. When expectations rise after success I reckon that gets harder. Got to find some of that enjoy the game, play to your strengths, work the system, play in the moment and let the result work itself out attitude which I think we have lost.

I can see both sides of this, although I'm tending to the dark side of the fence. Dimma is clearly struggling with the pressure of things. I don't buy the "we have injuries" rationale - our stars are aging, it was clear we will rarely have them all on the park at the same time this year.

We have been unlucky (dumb) and lost/drawn games we should have won - is that good or bad? Clearly bad, it shows we ain't all there in the head right now, even if the results of last month aren't the most accurate reflection of our game. Losing to North though? C'mon.

On the positive side, Geelong sniped our best mid and we would have won that game with him - although really we should have won it without him. As some have mentioned, pressure game has returned, is it back to stay? I'd argue that you should never lose to Freo, even at Marvel, but hey, they are a strong side this year.

If we can beat the Paddlepops at the G this weekend that's a good sign. Lose, shut up shop until next year kids. Let's win if for Lambo.

The North loss was such a massive blow. It's left us with no room for error, in a season where error is coursing through our veins.

Frustratingly, it's left us in no mans land, where we won't give valuable game time to the kids to accelerate their development because we hold on to faint hope of making finals.

I still hold out hope for a miracle, but it's just just that, down to hope.
