Pick 63, 2017 Ben Miller - Welcome to Tigerland.

Pleasantly surprised with Benny's ruck craft against Port, 10 hit outs @ 50%

Very happy for “Funky” really nice bloke and has obviously worked bloody hard for another contract , most importantly better judges then me rate him highly . Not that he has the elite pace of Grimes but I think that’s who he should try an emulate

Geez, he’s lucky. 5 years on the list, only 8 games and still gets a 2 year extension by virtue of the fact he’s tall and can supposedly run a bit.

This, coupled with Samson's continued development puts Soldo in an awkward spot going forward.
Clubs always need ruck back-up. An injury-prone position for obvious reasons, and often long-term injuries. Soldo would be an excellent spare if we can keep him over next few years. Able to step in and play as a competitive 1st ruck; even if not fast or highly proficient, he does nullify effectively.

For a 196cm and 93kg key position player and ruck, Miller suddenly caught the attention of AFL supporters when he ran a 2.91 second 20m sprint and 8.10 second agility test.

He's actually extremely quick for his height.

That’s definitely quicker than Cliffy Young......

Cliff ran in Wellington boots
Yep, he wore gum boots when training on the farm, but for Sydney to Melbourne and other serious runs he wore running shoes. He ran a 3:02 marathon at age 58, not shabby at all. He moved surprisingly quickly over the shorter distances.
Media loved to play along with the gumboots story........

GWS need a ruckman…
So will the maggots if they shift Grundy and Soldo would be cheap and known to Leppa and Fly.

They'd be in for him. in that situation I'd reckon.

I think its good to have 2 first rucks on the list nothing wrong with it.

Only takes one serious injury and you're done.

Great news. Well deserved contract extension after improving out of sight since having a good run in the firsts. Look forward to watch his career keep going forwards with the club.
BTW, wasn't Ben on the Rookie list this year?

When he joined us he was raw, had very limited training and as a big lad it takes time to mature and learn the arts of a KPD. Astute coaching by McRae and his own will has seen him progress steadily. Playing in the firsts has given him confidence in himself and now he gets better every game. Will become a regular in the years to come

Genuine ruck/back/forward stop gap. Could be invaluable over the course of the finals and beyond.
