Damien Hardwick

I have also posted the below in the Kane Cornes thread - but want to post here also for the record.
____________________

I dont listen to Cornes. Honestly stopped a couple of yrs ago, incl FC (will watch a couple of the 2-3 min videos on twitter if the topic is interesting). No SEN or Fox.

But yesterday, my mate called me in the morning and told me he was listening to SEN and Cornes was so scathing of Dimma's motives, that it was not just derogatory - but almost defamation.
For context, my mate is a lawyer, which is why I listened to the podcast last night.
When a lawyer uses the word defamation, you stand up and take notice.

Anyway... I heard it. Wouldn't have a clue if a lawyer could make anything of the words said, or if Dimma/RFC would act, but he pretty much accused Dimma of acting only for himself in the short term by recruiting JH and TT.
Cornes used really harsh, despicable language. Stuff like Dimma wouldn't care about the damage his actions caused down the track to the Club by getting these 2 players in, that he was in it for a couple more years for himself and wouldn't care about the consequences to the Club or that he will leave the club in a mess. Kingy even tried to cool him down by saying its not just Dimma's decision. Cornes then said, 'well, he'd have a big say'.

TBH, even by what I think is Cornes' shocking standards, it was despicable language used about someone who has given 13 years service to 1 Club let alone his time as a player. It was vile TBH.
That is correct I heard the whole thing, I could not believe it was being broadcast. This guy is a monumental ambulance chaser who is also throwing brass tacks on the road. Nutjob.

I'm not sure why the people who dislike Whateley act like he slept with their wife.

There's a great irony that it's considered perfectly fine to get as personal as you like with a journalist, but they must only stick to football.

Throw a bit of homophobia at Whateley, call Robbo a drunk, bit of good old misogyny about female journos sleeping with players and it's all good but if a journo reports something personal about one of our people they are a gutter-dwelling, trash peddler who is beneath contempt for crossing a line that should never be crossed.

Cornes doubled down on Crunch Time. Compared Hardwick with Clarkson, saying Clarko said “get me O’Mera, get me Mitchell etc” without caring about what those decisions did to the club long term because he wasn’t going to be there. It was all about the now and sacrificing the future.

How does Cornes know that Dimma won’t be coaching Richmond in seven years time. If we stay in the premiership window and remains super competitive why would he leave?

That's phase two of the mob mentality. Play the man and not the ball. No rebuttal, just dismissal. Often manifests as the always hilarious implication the poster is the subject. 'Is that you Gil?'.

Again coming from the place that my opinion is so obvious you must be a fool not to see it. Which is also why the media must obviously be biased not to report it. Hmmmm.
Hey TBR

I only ever play the man with you. How does it feel, since that is what you do to others?
I try and ignore almost every one of your posts - and on almost 9 out of 10, I get there.

Its the last one out of 10 that riles so much, because it is laced with such superiority and I 'am in the know' connotations that I just cant let it go. From your post months ago calling out the Richmond medics as if you knew best, I couldnt turn the other cheek any longer.

I have rebuttal after rebuttal. They are always expressed. I dont go in stating 'my inside knowledge of this or that' you really are hilarious, do you think we cant see through you. Neither your opinion nor mine is so obvious the other is a fool. What is foolish is someone calling out a mob mentality just because we dont agree with you.

You listen to that one do you? I do, and he's the same on the radio. A major endorser of almost everything AFL. He gets 2 cracks at pushing the AFL agenda.

BTW it's OK to like GW. I like him as a pure commentator and he has a pretty good knowledge and appreciation of a lot of sports. I find him self-indulgent and smug i9n general. And far from independent when it comes to most things AFL.
We are part of the same 'mob' MD. Well... according to some.

Agree with you, although I no longer listen to him. He is the AFL mouthpiece wrapped up in a reasonable grasp of the English language.
He has become smug and self indulgent since he started as SEN's headline act - from the moment they pumped up his tyres as Croc Media's Number 1 headline, his commitment to his profession got buried.
On the ABC, his knowledge + his humility + his presence of his profession working for the ABC kept him objective.

Now, he is as much a groupie for his own club as many of us are but far worse is that, as part of SEN and FOX who rely on the AFL's good graces to keep their licences, he is anything but independent.

Couldnt care less about his looks, mannerisms, female journos, etc.

What does make me laugh is when ppl call him intelligent and well researched simply b/c he can string a few words together better than most.
Of course, he appears smarter when you compare him to his comrade Robbo across the table on FOX or King, Cornes, etc across the headsets from him on SEN.
We'd all sound and look like Einstein relative to the rest of them.

If you see superiority in them then that probably says something about you.

As for calling out medics, afraid not. I'm always sympathetic to medical staff no matter what happens, it's a bloody hard business.

Suggest you re-visit your post re the medics. I think it may have actually been the first time I couldnt stop myself from responding to you.

I think quite a few posters on here see the same superiority, but I wont speak for them. The Ignore button will likely be both our friend.

Isn't this a forum where we can express differences of opinion in a respectful manner?
Respectful yes, but we've got people aren't being respectful. Regardless of who the target is, we should all try be that. We're mostly all Tigers fans here, and those who aren't don't speak the way some folks here are.

I won't be re-visiting, whatever I said about any medical situation I'm pretty comfortable.

Again, if people see superiority I think it says more about them. Feel free to ignore away.

Exactly. EFA

Post here are walking very close to, if not crossing this line. Argue the point, fine. Start targetting people, not fine.
Are you referring to Whateley here? I note I had posts deleted which I was bemused by. Considering there were plenty of similar posts.
50% of the game day posts would be deleted if you were consistent. The George thread may not not exist.

I'm not sure what you want him to do with Brad Scott though. There's no way he would come on their show because he hasn't got a defendable position. Short of dragging him in at gun point I don't know what you want Whateley to do. They spoke at length about the decision on the show and criticised it strongly. Whateley has always gone hard at the ARC as he does at various other AFL matters.
So what you’re saying is it’s too hard, let’s forget about an inexplicable and potentially corrupt decision with massive ramifications to the biggest sport in the land. You’re saying this leading AFL journalist should just drop it because it’s too hard?
Seriously? That makes him an even bigger AFL sycophant.

Can’t get him on his show? You’re funny.

Damn. I must be doing things wrong, happen to like most of TBR's posting. Don't always agree with him ( but who does ). Usually manages to carry a good argument / conversation rationally without hanging *smile* on or abusing anyone who doesn't agree with him.
If being able to have a different opinion and being able to articulate his points n views clearly is appearing to be superior to others then I'm thinking they're having conversations in the wrong place or with the wrong crowd.

The whole idea of having a forum is so that everyone one can stick in thoughts and opinions regardless of their supposed knowledge, contacts or influence around the game, yet for some reason people start to go heavy on the insults when some don't follow the narrowest of mantra.

otherwise it would be a battleground

i get tempted to engage occasionally but then i remember that there are others who i respect on here, whose general experience is diminished when i get into brawls

Dimma needs to pull his head in, and stop poking the AFL, or umpires, or whatver else. It will come back and bite him/us on the backside. ive been thinking this for a while. what he's saying is often correct, and we all know the AFL are corrupt wankers, but he needs to keep his mouth shut for the members, clubs and the teams sake

I do listen. I do like him. I disagree with your assessment of him. He's constantly critical of the MRP, of the video replay system, and highlights inconsistency in rule interpretations - particularly when it comes to what the AFL distribute at the start of the year and how they deviate from it.

I wasn't specifically referring to Whateley, but I guess he'd be covered by it too.
If there's posts that contravene the site rules, report them - i cant read everything, there's waaay too much lol. I'll get busy.
The site isn't just a locker room or discussion at the local pub, there's a range of backgrounds, ages, genders, etc. Not everyone appreciates all the banter and aggressiveness of some of the stuff.
As for the game day thread, I know for sure there's people been warned and given a rest for stuff in there.

I enjoy and like Whateley's work btw

As I've said before he is a considered, erudite voice in an industry too heavily slanted to boofhead ex-footballers who can barely string a sentence together
