Bully, if there was a chance that we could not use either our pick 19 or next years first in the Hopper/Taranto trade, which one would you go for? Obvious answer is next years pick but if we had 19 available this year we might be able to snag a KPF and it looks like there might be a few available from reports? But apparently next year is a superdraft (aren't they all) so not sure if it would be better to keep next years pick instead?
I think it's only a slim chance Keeler is available at 19 so I'd probably hold next year's first, if we get wind that he might be drifting then probably go with the bird in the hand & grab Keeler this year. One of the aspects that appeals so much with Keeler is that he projects as a genuine dual position talent, I'll be looking closely at his athletic data to see how closely it correlates with Paddy Ryder, vertical leap critical in making final judgement.

Or keep 19 and then either Keeler is available or another suitable pick

Or trade 19 for a pick next year. Or ....

More options by keeping 19 this year

Always a good idea to keep as many options available as possible.
Just on the viability of next years draft, at least the youngsters will have had a proper opportunity to ply their trade n develop up by next years draft. Two years of lock downs n bugger all footy left a massive hole in the growth n development of the youngsters that were coming through. Hopefully by the end of next season things will be fully back to normal for the youngsters with AFL dreams.

Is this a good or bad draft to be trading out of?

It's a strong top 20, the midfield depth is there, there's a nice selection of key forwards & there's a few potential steals later in the draft. I've earmarked a late pick for Max Knobel, I think he's a bit more complete than his old man who was an excellent tap ruckman but lacking an all-round game.

Haiden Schloithe just retired, one of the best state league players I've seen to never get the opportunity at the highest level. I've never quite understood the reluctance to be honest but an outstanding career nevertheless.

Just tuned into the NAB League grand final in time to see Ashcroft get a free kick for someone having the impunity to tackle him, then a brilliant goal by Harry Sheezel.

I'm still adamant Keeler's our man. His third quarter in the semi against Norwood last week was sensational. Grand final tonight, will have a look at some stage. Probably the only way we'll get him is if we keep our first pick, which is looking highly unlikely. There's a chance he might get to 19 going by various pundits' rankings but I reckon that's unlikely too.

Ashcroft certainly has that “play for a free in the tackle” capacity. Might make Ginnivan look like an amateur in time.

May as well close thread for Thai years draft :cool:No doubt we have a KPF free agent lined up for 2025 .

Potentially the next 2 seasons forward half is better then our Premiership 2017 one , Lynch, Jack, Dusty , Timmy T , Cumberland, MJ , Bauer , Bolton, Clarke etc
Just a matter of which twin.

Keeler was pretty ordinary apparently, might drop a bit more, does seem to be hot and cold.

Inconsistency is to be expected with 18yo talls. Still, he averaged 18 disposals, 4 marks, 3 clearances and 1.3 goals a game in the SANFL U18s. Pretty good numbers to add to what the eye tells you. Played well in the Champs too.

I don't see him getting past Melbourne given they're losing Jackson. Unless they spend the pick(s) they get in that trade on Grundy.

Could see the Pies, Cats, Swans, GWS, Hawthorn, Port, West Coast all being interested.

Looking back at Darling & Buddy one can fall into the trap of becoming too glass half empty, it's the skill set which I'm more concerned about & he has the tools. Sure, there's a chance he goes the way of Ben Griffiths but that's just the key position lotto and given he's also a ruck I think there's a solid floor.

I would certainly be happy to give him a go but barring a miracle it isn’t going to be a concern for us anyway.
