Pretty much a fairytale career from start to finish.
Looked to have slowed up this year and struggled to keep up and has made the right decision .

Magnificent career Selwood.

If he stuck around to captain another couple of flags, and got rid of the constant free kick milking...

He'd almost be in the same stratosphere at Cotch.

Not quite though.

Cotch will get to 300 games next year, and probably retire, but no one outside of the RFC will give him the respect that he deserves. The general football public don’t rate him. All most of them remember is the clash with Shiel in the ‘17 PF. He’s got 2 more flags as captain than Duckwood and a Brownlow.

Cotch is one of the greatest tigers of all time. Immortal.

I'll be buying Posisocks to supplement the legends income next year.

Impossible to love this bloke any more than we already do.

Selwood surrounded by stars and stability his entire career. While the chimp came to a basket case , put us on his back and carried us to a dynasty .

No comparison

Utmost respect to Selwood but Saturday looked like a politician campaigning for election.
Made sure he went out looking a top bloke when truth is he was mostly a sniping whinge merchant.
Might not be a popular opinion but he grates me.

And we lost his debut to bloody Geelong!
But that goal!!

My memory is sketchy, but after he kicked that goal I may have said to my mates:

"That young fella right there will win a Brownlow and captain us to 3 flags, I can feel it in my waters "

Zgod, I agree with what you wrote above and what a few others have said.

Cotch doesn’t get a look in by most in the media.
It’s Selwood this, Cats this, Scott this, Wells this!
Sick of it!

To me I don’t have him in my top 5 Captains of the last twenty years.

Where was Selwood in 17, 18, 19 & 20.

Cotch to me and to many is a Captain that led by example and others followed.

3 x premiership captain
Brownlow
B & F
Inspirational leader of men
Built our culture from the bottom to the top. ( we were compared to Fitzroy. Actually worse than Fitzroy).

I have him nearly on par with Buckley as my least admired, liked captain.

Cotch
Voss
Hodge
Hird
Carey

And that’s saying something having the last two on Waiting’s list.

Agree so much mayo. He knew 6 weeks ago he was retiring & was posing for every photo snap he could.
He was a very good footballer but nowhere near the superstar he's painted to be. Biggest contribution the game was milking free kicks by shrugging the shoulders which was a reason for much of his bandages. If he wasn't given a free kick he was appealing for one. All the scrutiny on Ginnivan but Teflon Joel made a career out of it.
So many dirty plays to opposition behind the scenes.
Honestly reckon he's played a couple of seasons too long but the rule changes helped him & his old team to a flag.
The way he gets lauded by Hutchy's crew makes me want to vomit.
Other than all that good luck to him.
:))

Had to chuckle at Salty Scott. “The best player I’ve ever seen”, give me a break.
Good player in his prime but “the best player ever” Salty must have been still drunk.

You'd think there's a few that come to mind both at the Brisbane Lions when he was there and even the recent Geelong sides that would be considered better players than Selwood. Voss, for example.

Geez the HUN are in on the Selwood lovefest. He’s on NINE pages AND a poster!

Triple premiership captain and Brownlow medalist Trent will obviously get a good dozen pages and a statue I assume….
