2022 Draft Thread

Shadeau Brain is next level unusual name. Hall of Fame. Got everything. Shadow would have been a walk-up start even without the unique spelling. And as a package, it sounds like a science fiction film, or pseudo science psychology theory out of Byron Bay.

What a coincidence, Shadeau Brain is the name of my DMT-infused ceremonial cacao chakra-healing drum circle workshop. Just $1799 for the weekend.

The answer is in our shadow brain, and so is the question.

If they throw in a colonic irrigation and some botox I'm in.

A bit of a fluff piece but I agree with the sentiments, would it be better to wait on Hopper who will be a free agent next year?
I don't. Agree we need a KF, but the need isn't urgent, definately not as urgent as mature midfielders. Even for arguments sake if both needs were equally urgent, solve one problem or half-solve both? You can argue both. Another big factor is timing, I'd say we've been working to bring in TT for a year or maybe more, while being open to JH. JH became available and we went for it. Strike while the iron is hot. The club would have a plan for KF regen.

Do we not think that Blair has a free agent forward lined up by 2024?, I do, I think we can make do till then by swinging Miller/Gibcus/Balta/Ryan/Bauer fwd and throw a few darts at project talls a bit later in the draft.
Midfield stoppage 100% our weakness the last couple of years.
Have on the whole failed to solve via the draft and with Shedda, Lambert gone, Cotch's last year and Prestia's body unreliable, urgent measures required.
If we had waited till next year Hopper would have been gone as Geelong were right into him and favored to get the Hop until RFC trumped them.

Is the club planning on trading next year's first? If so, we may have some problem sourcing the capital, unless it involves a free agent.

Who is a viable option next year? Free agency will be highly competitive, I'm not as confident as some.

I'm hoping Todd Marshall. I think Ports list is currently in no mans land. They have a number of key players that are getting old and have no viable replacements for them.

Gray has retired. Boak is 34, Dixon is 32, Jonas is nearly 32, Lycett is 32, Clurey is 28, Aliir is 28, even Wines is almost 28. They have some good young players, but I think they will be left in no mans land, with the older guys dropping off at the same time as the young ones picking up the slack.

I'm hoping they slide a bit down the ladder, and that FA pick might then slide into the 5-8 range. Reckon they would let him leave for that sort of return.

There isn't a lot. MacKay is a pipedream that won't come true. Reckon 2024 is out year. That might be why we were linked with Koschitske from the Hawks potentially next year. You'd be looking at hopefully replacing Jack with one of Ryan, Bauer or Koschitske and Lynch with Marshall in time (thought probably play together for a year or 2)

Marshall is the best option I can see but even he needs to back it up this year, not yet an established gun.

I'm still more comfortable with one big trade & a couple junior key forwards, Jefferson my preference but Keeler & say, Lemmey and/or Knobel would be a decent fall back option. I don't think we can get anyone decent if our first pick is in the 50s, this would be the range for D'Aloia who is also the type we are looking for. I think it would be a big mistake to trade all of 12, 19, 30 & next year's first, that to me is like selling the farm.

I were not necessarily thinking 2023 more by the 2024 trading/free agency period I just think Blair is too good an operator now to not have someone lined up, we'll see Pie's have been trying for year's now to find one and have had to settle for McInerney :) after missing out on Lynch so you could be right.

I think the below would be a good outcome for us personally. Good outcomes for us, good outcomes for WC (they slide back for Busslinger and Hewett), good outcomes for GWS and not bad for Port (assuming they aren't that sold on picks this year).

First trade

Richmond In - Pick 2, 39
Richmond Out - Picks 12, F1 and 31
West Coast In - Picks 8, 12 and 31
West Coast Out - Picks 2, 39 and Rioli
Port In - Future 1st (Richmond), Rioli
Port Out - Pick 8

Second trade (to GWS)
Richmond In - Taranto and 21
Richmond Out - 2

Third trade
Richmond In - Picks 58, 60 and Hopper
Richmond Out - 19, 39 and Soldo

Net trades for Richmond are:
In - Hopper, Taranto and Picks 21, 58 and 60
Out - 12, F1, 19, 31 and Soldo

Net trades for GWS are:
In - 2, 19, 39 and Soldo
Out - Hopper, Taranto, 21, 58 and 60

We go to the draft after talls, and go 21 (Keeler), 58 (will come in a heap as picks disappear - Lemmey) and 60 (again will come in a lot - D'Aloia)

GWS take Cadman and Sheezel with 2 and 3.
