Maybe not so much a poor draft, but a very uncertain one.
Ive heard numerous times from different sources that clubs believe that the first 4-6 are generally considered pretty solid, and should produce good players, but after that it’s considered less than clear. Normally you get to 15-20 before it starts to get a bit yes/no beteeen clubs. Not to say that a whole bunch of great players couldn’t still come from this draft but clubs to be honest are struggling a bit this year to get a finger on it.
There’s a lot of players that have some outstanding attributes but also one or two queries. Not too many fully rounded ones in club’s minds.
I’ll give you an example. Oliver Hollands. I personally like Hollands because he runs hard both ways, all game long, and has a nice inside and outside blend. (Think he really suits our game style actually.) But his kicking is ordinary. Can he clean it up ? Depends who you ask. He could go either way. And there’s a lot like him. Some have some injury queries too eg Wardlaw.
It’s not a poor draft, just a very unclear one, I think. Like you, I can’t say I really like or dislike any player. Certainly a bunch of question marks on a few for mine - some of them even early picks eg Wardlaw, Humphrey, Tsatas, Sheezel - but big upside with them also. Probably Alwyn Davey is the only one I reckon is big time overrated. I’m also not keen on any of the SA talls either except Barnett, although I’d take a punt on Lemmey with a late pick of ours if he was still there given the positional gaps on our list at present.
