I like cadman a lot, as I said, no 1 for me, and standout no. 1. I love how he shares the ball. I'm a bit mystified as to what direction he'll go in, bit of Lynchy, bit of Cameron, bit of Roachy even.
I think he’s a Jez Cameron, he’ll roam up, create and have a work rate like Lynch. Will make everyone look better. He will need to run and jump into packs, wont be able to push and shove.

On Phillipou, you're not alone, and yes of course he could end up the best, but the basis for that statement is thin IMO. SANFL reserves? When did that become gold standard? Shouldn't he own that level if he's top 10 and possible no 1? People are searching for the standouts, apart from Cadman, and Ashcroft but with qualifications, I'm not seeing them.
It’s a fair summation. Unique players like Phillipou show you glimpses, it’s real projection stuff. But amongst the mids, his HIGHLIGHTS are as good as any, just hasn’t done as it often. He just seems like a Bulldogs type player.

poor draft?
Maybe not so much a poor draft, but a very uncertain one.

Ive heard numerous times from different sources that clubs believe that the first 4-6 are generally considered pretty solid, and should produce good players, but after that it’s considered less than clear. Normally you get to 15-20 before it starts to get a bit yes/no beteeen clubs. Not to say that a whole bunch of great players couldn’t still come from this draft but clubs to be honest are struggling a bit this year to get a finger on it.

There’s a lot of players that have some outstanding attributes but also one or two queries. Not too many fully rounded ones in club’s minds.

I’ll give you an example. Oliver Hollands. I personally like Hollands because he runs hard both ways, all game long, and has a nice inside and outside blend. (Think he really suits our game style actually.) But his kicking is ordinary. Can he clean it up ? Depends who you ask. He could go either way. And there’s a lot like him. Some have some injury queries too eg Wardlaw.

It’s not a poor draft, just a very unclear one, I think. Like you, I can’t say I really like or dislike any player. Certainly a bunch of question marks on a few for mine - some of them even early picks eg Wardlaw, Humphrey, Tsatas, Sheezel - but big upside with them also. Probably Alwyn Davey is the only one I reckon is big time overrated. I’m also not keen on any of the SA talls either except Barnett, although I’d take a punt on Lemmey with a late pick of ours if he was still there given the positional gaps on our list at present.

we're in broad agreement.

agree on Hollands love the workrate, I don't like the kicking at all. Skies them and low accuracy. I don't mind low accuracy, Clayton Oliver being the posterboy, but I hate up and unders, and the 2 in combo is bad. Olivers kicks, and Dusty's that miss the mark, are long, fast and low.

Ginbey is the most overrated player in the draft. Looks good, moves well, tested well as we all know like pendlebury played basketball, but has anyone seen him play much good footy?

Don’t disagree with a lot of that Snake.

I do think Cadman is as good as a key forward prospect that has been in the draft since the Kings. You can build your forward line around him. I’m a fan of blokes who have played small and then have that late growth spurt like Cadman, they keep the small man skills.

I’m enamoured with Phillipou, he’s got everything I like in tall mids. Could end up the best player in the draft. But I do think this crop will produce core footballers but I don’t know about elites. I’ve been consistent with what we’ve done in this draft, I’m ok with it. Keep a couple of late lottery picks to plug gaps. Lemmey & Binns in my sights.
I got some info today that we are talking to & keen on Binns. Carlton are also but if he slides to our pick we are very keen.

Half is a stretch, but I take your point. I dunno. As I've said before, Ashcroft will be a player, a star I'd say, but a vanilla star. More Parish than Petracca. Cadman is the only genuinely compelling player in the crop IMO.
Top 52 are Duds.

I agree and i think its largely due to Covid.

This crop played significantly less footy,

And clubs have had significantly less resources to assess them.

There will be more busts than usual, and the flow on, which we are already seeing, is more 19/20 yos taken SSP and mid season

Interesting.

As others have correctly pointed out, the Hopper-Taranto strategy is pushing out the glaring KPF needs that we have and the selection of Binns or others in that mid size range (eg Teal or whomever) would exacerbate that, but in the case of Binns I’d maybe be prepared to wear that. Think he’s pretty handy. Runs very hard both ways all game long, connects real well on the outside, can kick a goal, has a developing inside game, and disposal is in the acceptable range too. Has a Langdon vibe about him, maybe even a bit quicker over the first 10.

Hard to see him sliding that far however. In fact, not sure why he’d be sliding at all ? Had a great Carnival - All Australian. Maybe a bit too outside for some ? Dunno.

Based on performance rather than hype, Binns should rise rather than slide. He's better than Ginbey and Cowan, and maybe even Phillipou, but 6-8cm shorter. IMO he is rated 'correctly' if it was a good draft, 25-35, but because it isn't a good draft, he should be higher.

I expect we might trade up for Binns if we can. I think our options are fairly limited though as we can’t use future picks given we traded out our F1

Binns is a Richmond fan.

I don’t think we’re able to offer any picks to move up from 53 (due to trading F1 and 63 won’t move us up much), but I’m not sure if the new salary cap rules (mooted in the age a couple of months ago) might mean we’re able to pay something of another team’s salary cap in return for moving up.

I agree. Definitely need to pick up atleast 1 key forward in this draft as well as one in next years draft. Jack in his last year at the club and lynch not getting any younger. Wouldn’t mind James Van Es too as some key back depth if he slips through to us, especially if they decide to play Balta or Gibbo permanently forward into the future.

Can we take Tippa just for the lols to shaft Essington??
Yeah, nah. He’s doomed to failure at Essendon. Will play this season and realise the games gone past him.

I reckon we might target Harry Himmleberg next year as a free agent. He is great mates with Taranto and is probably the best bet as a key forward free agent.

You mean the Harry Himmelberg who showed this year he is a much better key defender than that of a forward?
