Round 1 Best 22 (23). No easy task...

B: Grimes Tarrant Broad
HB: Vlastuin Balta DRioli
C: Pickett Taranto McIntosh
HF: Bolton Riewoldt Martin
F: MRioli Lynch Cumberland
R: Nankervis Hopper Prestia
I: Cotchin Baker Short Miller
S: Ross

Beat that team. Looks like the Sonz starts in the 2s if everyone's fit. Him or Cumbo. Graham to work into it off the toe.
I am trying hard to beat that team Spook:

Judson Clarke looking very very good the longer the pre-season goes on, I could nearly see Juddy on the bench, (replacing Ross), to interchange change fwd with MJ and Cumberland.
You already have Bolton, Martin, Shorty and Cotch that can swing into the mid for stints.

Haven't liked the disruption to Sonsie's and Graham's pre-season to have any confidence they will be right for round 1.
I could say the same about Lynch, but Lynch is Lynch and without putting him on the team sheet it just doesn't look so awesome :) .

Does leave us with just Bakes and possibly Short to interchange down back, Miller has been training all pre as the forward/ruck so doubting they would want to disrupt that but in case of emergency could go back.

It's a hard one now that we should have genuine mids that can go forward, (Shai, Martin, Taranto, Cotch?), we could maybe get by without the extra mid on the bench?

*Will MJ roll up into the centre for one or two clearances a game for a different look?, (probably not but i think he could).

Very exciting if Juddy forces his way in, mate.

My rolling Round 1 team and barring any injuries this how I think we will line up.

We’ve only got 1 tall forward in our forward line whilst other teams are going with 3 talls
Melb- Brown 200cm McDonald 195cm Gawn 209/ Grundy 202
Dogs- Ugle-Hagan 197cm Naughton 196cm Lobb 207cm
We need at least another genuine tall marking option ontop of Lynch Riewoldt to put added pressure on opposition backline

Need to drastically change our game style if we're gunna play more talls. Need to play a far more open uncontested precision type of game rather than the heavy contested scramble forward game we've been running the last six years.

Assuming pickett and tarrant are fit and get through vfl game

Grimes Tarrant Nick V
Rioli Balta Baker
Kmac Hopper Pickett
Bolton Clarke Rioli Jr
Martin Lynch Jack

Nank Tim T Prestia

Miller Short Cotch cumberland Sub Hugo R

Notable absentees with injuries
Short
Pickett
Tarrant
Gibcus

I think we roll the dice and play Graham and have Ross as the sub.

I have succumbed to leaving the great man out as I think Miller will get the nod ahead of him. Although I do not agree with it.

The big question is, will we win against the Blues on Thursday.
Seems to me we are evenly matched and either team may win the chocolates.
If we are to win, where will we win it.
If we lose, why?

Tigers' inaccuracy and missing critical goals when on top keeping them in it as we always do.

Tigers giving away stupid free kicks and 50 m penalties like they always do.

Umpires sucking off their forwards at every opportunity and paying no mind to ours as they always do.

Tigers struggling to run the game out as last couple seasons.

Was confident before our preseason outings but after them am much less so now admittedly as the RFC's ability over the past 2 seasons to put itself out of the contest has started replacing its ability to kill off the opposition and the contest.

We wait and hope that the lads can flick the switch and bring it next week.

Do I suspect a touch of pessimism there Craig?

Not quite clear where we are on the injury front, but assuming the unavailability of Broad, Colina, Gibcus, Ross, Short and Tarrant, and that Graham, Pickett and Sonsie will be cleared to play.

B Balta Young (McKay) Grimes
HB Baker Vlastuin (Curnow) Rioli D,
C McIntosh Hopper Cotchin
HF Bolton Miller (Relief Ruck), Rioli M Jr (Saad)
F Cumberland Lynch Martin
R Nankervis Taranto Prestia
I/C Clarke Graham Pickett and Riewoldt
Sub Sonsie
Emergencies Dow and Ryan.

All of a sudden it doesn't look as clear cut. Feels like we are somehow scrambling.
