Supporters are entitled to their opinions and it is always good to get differing ones. Debate is good
LOL , bit like horse trainers and the owners
The owners , like supporters , think they know it all
The trainers are running their hands over your horse and checking its feed bin and watching the track work , talking with jockeys and other trainers every day and have typically been doing it for decades.

Plus, looking at a couple of players at other Clubs. Darcy Moore was an ordinary forward when first played there. Liam Jones one great claim to fame was kicking goals against us, rest of the time at Carlton as a forward he was below average. Still playing good footy now in defence after an extended time out of the game and no spring chicken anymore. Even Ted Richards, ex Essendon, turned out pretty good at the Swannies as a full back but looked all at sea as a forward at the bummers.
Lot of mediocre forwards have gone on to be good defenders but rarely if ever does the reverse happen.

Shipston on Stour, UK
true.
Though I am taking umbrage at the way posters disparage what the club does and thinks their opinions are gold-spun fact.

Its not you UK, although I responded to you because of this opinion dressed as pigspittle.
"We insist on converting a kid .......blah blah ... that idea is a bust "
No one is happy with this season, and we can debate why without blaming the club that a young kid isnt the forward hero we need.

And no beef with you overall. I enjoy reading your posts overall.
TD,
This what I like, debate. I am not as Rules footy knowledgeable like many of the posters but enjoy the too and fro of PRE so l don't take offence. I just enjoy PRE as it makes me feel involved with fellow tragics even though I can't go to matches with them

Half a season at magoos last year n played some handy magoos footy.
A full pre season then half a season of handy magoos footy at magoos level. Then he's suddenly been switched from forward to defence when we are screaming out desperately for another forward because Lynchman is broken and Jaaack needs a pension.

Got me a feeling that the coaching mob aren't seeing much performance that would possibly elevate him to senior level.

Mid season draft is best used to either grab an experienced ex senior player who can fill a desperately needed hole. Or to try the old suck it n see with a young bloke who may have needed an extra year or two to mature a bit towards a professional footy career.
I prefer the suck it n see method of giving some late bloomers or our own magoos players the opportunity to grow their games over recycling players who've already been sort of almost to mediocre at AFL level because you know there's virtually no chance of them suddenly becoming better players.

Who have we picked?
Pickett Parker Bauer and now Coultard and Tresize.
Its now the young kids who missed it at 18, werent in the draftmix but have levelled up

I just want to see something different than the same ol' same ol' dished up this season. Call me old fashioned, but I still love to see spearing passes to a forward on a lead inside 50. But in modern footy, you need to have quick ball movement through the middle to get away with it, and secondly, decent foot skills to execute said pass!
That's the thing though, we have alot of quick rebound movement but still bomb it long. It's our lack of speed in the forward line that hurts us imo. If you can't get that couple of metres on your opponent using speed it limits your opportunities.

Im not saying that, but im suggesting maybe the coaches who work closely with him each and every week are actually assessing his strengths and playing him accordingly. or maybe they just moved him back cos that is what they do without any thought process behind the move.
I find the process hard to understand. He's recruited as a forward, has done relatively well as a forward at VFL level, we're crying out for forwards. He doesn't get a game in the 1s to prove he can be a forward and we start trying him as a backman in the VFL.

Comes down to poor development for me we got so many players at the club long term and still not even a settled position how can you have that we don't follow the simple rule play players to there strengths.

Maybe they are playing him to his strengths. Maybe they're using him down back as part of his development.
If they think he doesn't run or work hard enough, force him to chase. See if he has the desire to compete.
It's clear he has very good athleticism, but straight athleticism won't cut it at AFL level. And if his work rate isn't high enough, defenders will just run off him at that level all day.
Think, if we're screaming out for another key forward, and we've moved him down back, what does it say about him. The club isn't going to deliberately shoot itself in the foot.

Jack and Lynch never played back. If they're having to put you back because you don't work hard enough, don't have that natural killer-instinct to offset the deficiencies then you're not going to make it at AFL level, particularly when you've come on board as a mid-year draft pick.

The one thing that stuck in my mind was Hardwick's claim of mindset change in 2016 to change from spending so much time trying to address what players aren't good at and focus on what they are good at. The rest is history.
