2024 Training With The Ooze Crew

I think with our backline, it held up pretty well last year, until about 2/3 of the way through the season and the dam wall broke, courtesy of the players up the field letting the ball in way too easily. If we can be better in the midfield, our backline will benefit hugely, even without Balta there. Still got plenty of experience down there, even if the keys are a bit raw still

Yeah the whole set up got real loosey goosey even before HW left really. Needs a total reset. For all the talk about us going more attacking, we all know thats not where big games are won.
So easy to see Balta having to go down back though, for whatever reason.

We used to be so solid in that department, then Yze himself said over the past few seasons you could see we were trying something different and started setting up differently at stoppages which was exploitable. Yze has also said about being good defensively though and we conceded so many inside 50s last year it wasn’t funny so definitely think there’ll be an improvement in that area this year. Melbourne’s defence was elite so I’m sure he’ll bring some ideas from that. For the midfield as well!

Dimma couldnt get the tinkering right , in 22 he went all offensive and certainly helped us being no 1 for scores but oppo were also scoring heavily ,,’23 tightened right up , and although oppo were no longer kicking cricket scores , we could barely muster 10G most weeks , curious how this unfolds at GC

Balta isn’t being sacked by the backline.

He is moving forward because without him there we would be relying on Lynch alone, to stand up and perform as he did 20-23.

Apart from his recent history and the risk of repeating last years return from what became a disaster of a forward line, there was also a need to plan for succession.

Balta is our fastest and Lynch apart, our strongest marking KPP.

Moving him forward and letting a backline comprising of Miller Gibcus and Young settle, with the help of Broad, Brown, Rioli, Short, Trezise and NV - was really the only way Oooooze could have gone!

No problem trying the Lightening Balta up forward, lot of things make sense with it. But I suspect there’s a reasonable chance (60% or more) he’ll be down back again before season’s end either by team necessity or by best personal position, or both.

If we don’t move him back to defence, then we’ll know we’re having a good year.

I’d put it differently. If he is selected to play back rather than transferred back on the odd occasion,- then we will know we are stuffed!

Easy to forget Bauer when he has spent 80% of his pre and post Christmas training in rehab, only progressed to doing the warm up with main group on Saturday

Loved the interview with Bauer on the occasion of his first game, which became a disaster for us after his early injury.
Something about a kid who in a world of players coming from relatively privileged backgrounds, himself came from a different background altogether.
Loved his attitude to his family and his future.
Whichever way it turns out I think that he will do all within his power to deliver his best.

Lol. So Kosi has trained all summer trying to work out forward line strategies with Balta, but now he won’t get first shot at the level. I think it just might be Kosi and Balta, imo of course

Just a quick query Caesar. I read your reports with enthusiasm each time you post but can’t recall where Bauer has been training? I’m thinking defence? Also, do you know what’s actually hindering him?
