The thing we all forget is that we have a recruitment team. Sure Jackson and Clarke read out the names but we have no idea how the team came to that decision. To give Jackson or Clarke the kudos or pat on the back for individual selections is probably very misguided in a lot of cases.

I don't think we had any recruiters for a while, Greg Miller as Richmonds football General Manager, or whatever his title was, used to do the recruiting as well.
He then put Francis on the books part time.
Francis's first year as full time recruiting manager, he nailed it with Jack Riewoldt and Shane Edwards, two 300 gamers.
There should be a statue of Francis at Punt Road.

Yes he did a great job, but no doubt Zips thought he was a dud haha.

I did describe his period from 2017 to 2020 as The Great Potato Glut. He pivoted in 2021 and so did his detractors (that'd be me) to some extent.

But you've raised the topic on another thread that I've been leading into with my bigoted and blind Clarke hate campaign - the role of the eye in judging a prospect. *smile* the metrics. Can the prospect play? Judgement by eye.

Metrics matter of course. You can't play small forward if you're 3.2 for 20m. But talent matters.

In the end recruiters have to be judged by whether their recruits are outstanding footballers. Good ones will only get you to eighth. In the end will we see that Matthew Clarke had a great eye? Or was it The Eye of the Potato?

In my mind he’s neglected our key position stocks.
Could have signed up Van Hoogenband and we would be all a little more optimistic about our spine. And it’s not the first time that he passed on a KP player that other clubs obviously rated.
As it stands I’m not devastated he’s leaving.
I’m just hoping Archie May comes on and they list him but it’s a lot of ifs.
