Samson Ryan

Is he athletic enough? You look at someone like Balta who might be slightly undersized as a ruck but has no problem jumping over anyone in the league. He has the added bonus of being able to blaze out of contests.

DeKoening will show us quite a bit tonight. Be interesting to see how Balta matches up when he gets a run.

When Samson goes back to the VFA and gets 73 hitouts and dominates that won't be an improvement. He always does that.

That's the problem. He can't get 210cm 125kg opponents to learn on. (He got square with Toby Conway last(?) season.)

But he has to be dropped with a focus on aerial contests I50.

To get confidence into a ruck you drop him into the defensive hole. That's easiest place on the ground to take a catch. So we will be doing that. For confidence. But that's not a measure comparable to any AFL contest. So we have to park him in the offensive hotspot and kick it on his head as often as we can.

The benchmark we have to set for Samson at VFA level has to be about getting a kick. Nah. Not 12 touches. 14, then 18, then 20 and 20 again and again. Samson has to get a kick. Simples.

Samson is physically tough. He will take a physical beating. He's not a jib. And he is a fighter. He may literally drop his head in game but he quickly gets to position in the next contest.

One more note on Samson. His ball use at senior level is miles off his demonstrated brilliant best. He can't lift his arms and legs after wrestling out of his division. Stamina is an issue.

Nice post Jack. Well he apparently put on weight over the preseason. Maybe it's had an impact on his mobility because he's looked less agile generally that's for sure.

I haven't sold up. He was never going to keep his spot in front of Nank/Naismith. This is a development year for Samson.

Jack has nailed it, the kid is not a shirker, he just lacks the durability at this stage. Develop develop develop.

Miserable cold wet n windy night totally unsuited for a skinny pelican in his first game. Coaches tried for a hail Mary selection n then the kid copped a corkie at his first centre bounce contest. Definitely needs to pull the finger out and start showing something this year, but his first game he was thrown straight under the bus by the coaching dept, it's irrelevant.

Shares have gone into a trading halt pending an announcement about a restructure.
Not sure this stock will ever recover.

I'm loading up on frozen concentrated orange juice futures. The crop report is not as bad as some believe.

He can learn off Naismith at training, and Naismith can be told to go for it as hard as he likes. The only way to learn is to experience the contest with a brute, I'm sure Naismith can be that brute.
