Is it all doom and gloom or is there hope?

Here how I think our best 22 will look like.

B: Vlastuin Balta Young
HB: Rioli D. Gibcus Short
C: Ross Tarranto Clarke
HF: Bauer Lynch Martin
FF: Coulthard Ryan Baker
Foll: Nank Hopper Bolton
Int: Sonsie Prestia MRJ Banks

I don’t think Grimes and Broad form warrants selection over those in the backline. Ditto with Graham and Macintosh.

You could make an argument for Cumberland to come in.

Would really want to see Dow and Brown have a big preseason and push into that 22.

The big issue looking at that team is pace. We lack it.

No Bolton?

It's still a solid backline but it will need to be because with that midfield they will be defending for 75% of the game.

And that assumes Prestia is able to get out there.

Yeah I do have concerns about the midfield. We need Dow and Sonsie to come on. Even then the depth is not there.

Midfield depth you say, if only we'd thought of that before drafting 452 flankers.

Even the MSD we took a flnaker, be nice to have a Buller type knocking up games in the VFL.

Paper side looks ok. But it isn't how teams look on paper that is the indicator. It's playing with confidence, buying into a good gameplan, onleadership, continuation especially with the younger brigade, injury free etc. So many variables. On paper our side has looked as good as any the last few years but so many other areas lacking. And hunger for the contest. A rabid approach to the game!

Coulthard was the right call. He looks the goods. But I see your point.

My guess as to how the team may look assuming Grimes & Graham are carrying an injury and will be cherry ripe for Round 1 and the coach intends to use them:

B: Grimes Young Vlastuin
HB: D.Rioli Gibcus Short
C: Ross Hopper Banks
HF: Martin Balta Baker
F: Bauer Lynch Cumberland
FOLL: Nankervis, Taranto, Bolton
INTER: Prestia, Broad, Graham, Coulthard
SUB: Clarke
EMERG: Brown, Sonsie, Soldo

B: Nyuon Miller Brown
HB: Ralphsmith Trezise Smith
C: McIntosh Dow Pickett
HF: Clarke Ryan Green
F: Mansell Bradtke Campbell
FOLL: Soldo, Sonsie, M.Rioli
INTER: Colina

The development of Gibcus will be interesting. Is he a defender or forward?

For me it’s the former. Looks a natural down back.

Assuming we don't pick up a KPF next season, it is fair to assume one of Gibcus or Balta will have to play forward especially if Lynch remains injured. The other dilemma will be fitting in all the players in the back 6, there is a plethora of options there still.

Gibcus is obviously a natural defender, unfortunately we have more pressing needs at the moment.

Dont mind the team, I would put Balta on a wing or on b all and just let him run. Have Gibcus and Young back with support from Grimes and Broad for next year.
Bauer and Lynch forward is a good start, Ryan as second ruck/forward.
Gee i hope some of the young boys come on.

All sounds good as there is general agreement but I just hope those thought to be in the best 22 read the script and give us a new beginning in 2024 . Hopefully with a new coach and assistants we have every chance of progressing
