Improvement is more intangible than just results. If getting games into kids is happening then that can be seen as improvement despite the scoreboard being unkind.
Improvement, that's it
I want to see us chasing and I want to see pressure and what to see an overall improvement.
Because they didn't play for him this year.

Agreed. How are we supposed to improve when last year we had genuine matchwinners like Rioli and Bolton that are no longer available.
Incremental improvements of the kids and the 50 gamers is a must, but I think everyone at the club realises we have to go back to go forwards, which forsakes general improvement.

I tend to agree about the back to go forward, but with 2 wins and last on the ladder there’s not a lot of room to go back to. We did improve on the 2009 season in Hardwick’s first year, although we were widely tipped to be worse.

And some strong leadership from the formal leaders in the team as well as others - set the example for the new guys every week. This has been missing for long periods over the past couple of years.

For me this is one of the most important attributes when trying to rebuild a team. The young guys need belief and it’s starts with leadership. In fact leadership by definition requires belief of those you lead otherwise you are leading nothing!

Looking forward to 2025 and like others the bar is not high but it’s also not on the ground - we need signs of green shoots!

Reckon there is a nucleus for a quick turnaround. The many injuries did not help this year.Others were probably playing for elsewhere. Those experienced that are still on the list have now become invaluable to foster the newbies. The injured Bauer,Gibcus etc have the opportunity to fill vacated roles.IF out of the newbies there are three regular senior players this coming season that will help the cause. For me relying on a Lynch comeback is the only flaw in the works.Hope there is a good plan B.

A good point. Not forgetting Marlion as well.

The fact that Dan, Shai, and Baker all finished top 5 in the B and F and are gone is mortally wounding for the club even if Baker and Shai had checked out halfway through the season.

Its a new dawn no doubt and Injuries to Lynch, Prestia, Hopper and other injury prone blokes+ will have us on the end of regular touch ups.

First post....I am confused what to think about Yze. Several senior players who left intimated he wasn't hard enough on the young players. I then saw him hugging all the new players who he barely knows...i am from a different generation I admit. IS he hard enough? Does he have the tough conversations?

He got the worst injury run known to man this year so he gets more time

2024 was always going to see Yze assess the senior players and also see what the junior player brought to the team. He tried to implement a game plan but the injuries threw that out the window. You cannot bed down a game plan when you are impacted so hard by injuries.

2025 we should be looking at the development of players, start seeing a game style and hopefully a full 4 quarter effort from all players. Might take to the latter part of the year but we need to see development.

The fire and brimstone won't work on the "every child wins a prize" generation

Why shouldn’t he give the new draftees a man hug? Shows he was genuinely happy they are at the club and happy for them.

First I heard of him not being hard enough on young players, there were mumblings about him not being hard on senior players.

Welcome btw.

All the talk was that year 1 was about building relationships & trust. That way he could come down on them harder in year 2 if required.
Might see a less cuddly ooze this year..

If your horse is tiring and (at the end of the day doesn't have much ability) it's no use whipping it all the way down the home straight..........

Soon after incurring the worst injury list imaginable - Yze pivoted (IMHO) and did what an 'elite' Coach does ............. he adapted his style and focus to meet the intent .......... which is/hopefully to build the next generation - and next Premiership team.

Like it or not - every employer will tell you - that generational change has forced the hand of leadership (management) and the days of Jeans/Hafey are LONG gone.

Yze is (right now) playing a nurturing and development Coaching role............

Slowly but surely he will implement game plan/tactics while maintaining 'encouragement' as the lead philosophy.........

As we get closer to 'the window' he will adapt to each players strengths/weaknesses - and yelling at first/second year Gen Z players (or being allof) is simply regressive

The modern Coach is a father figure - not an authoritarian teacher.

We are a professional Football Club and he was selected (and renumerated) on his skills/strengths

I'm pretty confident that he knows far more about what he's doing than my fellow PRE keyboard warriors :)

Agreed.
Just yell out “GLUE FACTORY” and see if it can’t raise its performance a couple of notches..

Tommy Raudonikis used to yeall out “CATTLE DOG” when he wanted his players to go the biff. Nothing else needed. Two words.

Don’t underestimate the power of the human voice :giggle:

Raudonikis also took a raw ox heart into the sheds, held it aloft, blood running down his arm, “I want youse blokes to show some of this!”

Reckon Yze has seemed far more relaxed, confident and self assured this pre-season, in the various interviews he’s done.

No doubt there’s an element of being 12 months further into a public speaking role, but my intuition tells me that the departure of some of our most successful players in our modem history has freed him up to run his own ship, without feeling like he’s stepping on legends’ toes.

It may mean nada in the end, but hopefully the boost in self confidence permeates the younger generation.

Let's hope you are right-he certainly was dealt a poor hand first up. My concern is he hard enough when he needs to be?

After reading team caesars reports and having a bit of a squiz myself , it appears on the pre pre season that quite a few players are being given the opportunity for a locked in role to make their own, not so much training in a variety of positions, also appears a couple of new role for a few .

A reasonable run with injuries , my expectations are not so much wins but competiveness and seeing a new trademark style of tough fast moving footy over most games in the season ,I can handle a couple of blow outs , however I’d hope we can snag 4 wins and the majority of our loses would be between 3-6 goals.

Even with the young list Yze has to show he has this squad on board , we’ll get a great idea in the second half of the season when we are sitting near or on the bottom of the ladder if Yze can keep the squad playing for the Sash
