Or mount a sensor on top of the posts pointing up and if it goes beep it hit the post but this wouldn’t have worked in lynches case as it clearly went straight through the middle of the big sticks!

Agreed Taz. An ump under each post for a set shot (2 goal, 2 boundary umps) and a goal ump under each goal post in general play. This will ensure there's always an ump under the flight of the ball, and both umps can confer on goal line decisions.I still believe 2 Goal umps at each end is the answer to 99% of the issues

That is not a bad idea but, the snick would be a lot cheaper than paying another four officials every week at every game.I still believe 2 Goal umps at each end is the answer to 99% of the issues
The club would be doing themselves a gross disservice making pricks of ourselves rather than focus on the road ahead , nothing at all good could come from it
So leave the call to the goal umpire...it's what he's paid to do....make the call!

That would be 4 extra umpires to cover each end.
Huge cost, but if affordable then not too bad.
There's already a snicko on the posts, and it would only require 1 additional goal ump at each end. Goal umps earn way less than field umps so cost not that great. That is not a bad idea but, the snick would be a lot cheaper than paying another four officials every week at every game.

Yeah nah. Position of goal umpire was ok. Just force them to make a decision and leave it at that. The more involved, the murkier it gets. Umpires make mistakes all the time. The arc is a total waste of money and source of frustration. Give the arc money to charity and we can all move on.I still believe 2 Goal umps at each end is the answer to 99% of the issues
Snicko cost us a Bolton goal in the Qualifying Final against the Paddle Pop Lions in 2020 when we were finishing hard. Funny how we are always on the receiving end of these reviewsWasnt the snicko used in the 19 PF when jack had that shot from close to the boundary in the last qtr. Its a great excuse to go and watch that game again anyway.
dimma has most def pulled his head in was way more circumspect and affable for best part of the year , I suspect some guidance was had , the new dimma gagged himself on this oneTrue, but that's never worried Hardwick before. He's not a shrinking violet on these matters.
Amen brother!
They have the snicko type thing in the posts but it is only useful if you haven't got 100kg blokes crashing into everything in the area while the ball goes past.
Sounds like the right solution while we wait until they are prepared to fork out for decent equipment. But the AFL will want to receive the advertising dollars associated with video decisions . The more video decisions made, the more money the AFL can sell the advertising spot for. It wasn’t implemented to get more decisions correct. $$$$Agreed Taz. I’m actually lost for words, well printable ones anyway.
4 extra? I make it 2 extra. Huge cost? Really? I guess if fans think this way it underlines the AFL tendency to penny pinch on umps. (and spend like drunken sailors on their exec mates). That is not a bad idea but, the snick would be a lot cheaper than paying another four officials every week at every game.

They have gone with extra field umpires. Surely cheaper in the long run to invest in state of the art tech than extra people.2 extra goal umpires per game per round would depend on whether they reuse the goal umpires on multiple days per round. Makes sense to do that. So say need 12 extra goal umpires per round and then needs spares. So lets say need 20 new goal umpires to cover the extra goal umpire requirement. Pay them $50K for the season each means the AFL needs to find $1million from somewhere.
Total attendances over the AFL season is around 6 million. So the AFL could increase ticket prices by $0.17 cents to cover the additional cost
