It's a shame that the ball wasn't delivered well on Saturday night, I reckon Jack was on, started like a house on fire. Carlisle didn't stop him, our midfield did.

Also noticed that Ryder got votes ??? I don't recall him doing anything much at all.

Richmond vs West Coast

10 – B. Deledio
7 – S. Selwood
6 – N. Vlastuin
3 – B. Houli
2 – A. Rance
2 – M. White

My guess as to votes:

Coach A
5 Lids
4 Selwood
3 Houli
2 Vlas
1 Rance

Coach B
5 Lids
4 Vlas
3 Selwood
2 White
1 Rance

Or swap Rance and White.

That just proves, when Deledio fires, we fire. He must be allowed to go to whatever part of the ground he wants.
Last night he was everywhere and selwood had no idea how to stop him

Shane Edwards went off 5 mins into the 3rd quarter (after he was involved in the 2 first goals) when we were about 35 pts up and IMO he was so far BOG at that point he should feel very hard done by to not even get 1 vote.

The game was won in the 2nd qtr and first 7 mins of the 3rd where we kicked about 9 unanswered goals and the top 2 vote getters had little scoreboard influence (offensive or defensive) during that time. Lids played his best football after that and Selwood was solid but butchered the ball a bit during that period. And Houli, who was also a solid contributor in his role was directly responsible for 2 goals against during the game.

As most people said, a hard game to give votes but usually you default to those who were the best players in the period that won the game. If you watch those 35 mins of football in isolation I would have:

5 Edwards
4 Vlastuin
3 Matty White
2 and 1 could be several here.....

I'll be curious to see who the umps give it to on Brownlow night.

Sorry Juff. The period that won the game? That's very subjective. Has to be who was the most influential for the whole game. Surely that's the first criteria. Lids, from what I have seen, has been awarded BOG in most awards and now also coaches, so maybe your theory that you give votes to the players in the period that won the game is not the norm? Nat won the game for West Coast after the siren. Should he therefore be the default BOG? Or should the guy who kept them in the game for 4 qusrters, rather than win the game, to be able to get over the line, get BOG?

No guessing about it. They are the only two possible combinations.

I'm not saying it is wrong, it is an opinion and there is no definite criteria on how votes should be given. I'm just pointing out how I saw those players games. I said I thought Lids would probably get the 3 votes because he ticked most boxes I'm just more surprised that Shed did not even get 1. Another way I sometimes look at it is because of the different positions and roles people play I take their best possessions. For example, because Shed (injury), Matty White, Vlas and Rance finished under 20 possies due to their roles I look at their best 15 possies vs Selwoods and Lids best 15. It is a way I handicap their overall game vs their positions and opportunities to get possessions. Also, I look at Net Value (who they played on), did they stop their opponent. Lids and Selwood played on each other in the 1st, then Lids went to the wing in the 2nd and ran free for that qtr before replacing Edwards in the middle after he went off and again him and Selwood hung around each other but did not play tight like in the 1st qtr. A guy like Jackson, got 20 odd possies and kept Kerr really quiet so I thought his NET Value to the team was vote deserving as well.

But, there is no right or wrong, all the names in there were valuable but I must admit that those coaches votes seemed a bit Herald/Sun'ish to me.

Anf there's the crux, as supporters we all value different things. I value the coaches awards because only they know what tasks they've set for a particular player and how well they achieved their task.

Robin Nahas quite high up. He actually had a very good 2011 so it's such a shame that he's gone backwards at such a rate of knots. If he could have kept improving year by year he would have been a valuable depth player.
