Coronavirus

It's been suggested for a little while that the UK is entering a third (fourth ?) wave. The figures don't discount that possibility.

Will #ScottyTheChildAbuser be quarantining upon his return from the UK?

Looking at the UK, the delta variant is 60% more transmissable (current estimation) and so spreads faster, which leads to a higher number of cases.

The good news is that vaccination is very effective at reducing severe cases and deaths even with Delta, so get vaccinated folks. In even better news, only three of the current delta cases in hospital had had BOTH vaccination doses, which means that if you have had both, your chances of being hospitalised are tiny.

Because of higher transmissability though there is a risk that the volume of hospital cases will overwhelm the NHS, so the UK government is weighing up whether to lift social distancing regulations this month or not.

As usual, the message is get the population both vaccine doses as fast as possible.

Haha, ive voted for both over the yrs.
i reckon robodebt alone should stop any "swaying" voter from voting for the libs, then add the vaccine rollout, the current NDIS disaster, the aged care policies, their current attempts to gut medicare, sports rorts, their lack of spending on bush fire relief. the list could go on and on.

Gee, how hard was that? Simple ad, I don't understand French but no need for a translation, the message is bleedingly obvious - vaccinate and everything opens up.

Mind you, not having enough vaccines to go around is the most likely explanation for the woeful effort of the incompetent fools running the show here.

DS

Stick sub titles on it and Run it on SBS.
As the only rich country with a shortage of vaccines, we Won't be invited to the G7 next time.

Wonder if they'll do one on Dan and his ways with unions, coverups & lies. Doubt it as abc was all laughs & hugs with him while people were dying due to his failures last year. Only ones getting easy access to his glorious media conferences.

Others media got 10 min warnings b4 media conference wld start or banned.

Imo politicians are all the same.
Its voting for the one that will least F u up with their policies.

Sky & ABC yeah different battlefields, theyll choose their agendas.
The media conferences were open to all with equal access. I know someone who attended many of them and is not from ABC. It should also be noted they were not political press conferences they were about a pandemic.
I’m not an enormous fan of Dan and have been critical of his links to a few trade unions in particular but I am not sure that ranks with having QAnon loonies advising our PM or uncovering a culture of sleeziness (at best) against women in the Libs in Canberra. This is our national government.
The ABC has run hatchet jobs on the ALP before. Craig Thomson, Eddie Obeid and his crew to name a couple. They tend to concentrate on those in power for some strange reason. Maybe it’s because they are in power ? They have run plenty of stories on hotel quarantine as well, especially around the security guards issues early on.
The fact is the Libs have given the investigative journos a truck load of material in recent years. I am not sure we have had a more morally bankrupt federal government in my lifetime.

I hope the ALP a doesn’t run with the Medicare part of this because personally I don’t believe the LNP is trying to gut Medicare. The latest report is a standard process that is actually party agnostic and whilst I don’t necesarily agree with its findings it’s not political. The LNP use medicare as a tool to try and cost shift between the states and the commonwealth but all governments have done that, it’s a consequence of our complicated health cost sharing model.
There is plenty for the ALP to attack this Government on without a false narrative on Medicare imo.

The 4 Corners story on Morrison and Qanon airs tomorrow.
4 Corners is becoming the lefts version of “A torrent of fear” or “Didnay and fright”.
the story is on the ABC website, how close are the links? Does Morrison see this loon socially? How long is it since he has seen he and his wife?
Morrison is a complete dud as PM but not sure this story is going to be a big gotcha piece.

His wife and Jenny are best friends so they see them a fair bit. I think a position of assistant to the PM's spouse was even created for her, thats nepotism for you. As Sin says above its about holding those in power to account, nothing else.

If their friendship has been maintained since this loon has come out as a QAnon supporter then I agree it’s a massive story. Personally I’m hoping Morrison gets outed by his own party. Perhaps this will help that.

2 new cases today.

Need some excellent communication from the state this week. Sutton is on the nose big time with people that have been his supporters.

In regional Victoria local footy went ahead. Couldn’t have crowds as only 150 allowed to go, so made it officials, players and umpires only. Even if you stayed in your car still couldn’t go.

I was talking to 2 very keen runners who do Parkrun. Parkrun can’t go ahead as you can’t have more than a group of 20 while 44 players can play football. Explain that one?

While they are talking that crowds can come back to the AFL in Melbourne where they are cases. Where there are no cases in regional Vic can’t even watch in your car.

In Melbourne you can go to a brothel, but can’t go to a gym. Explain that one?

The ALP hold most seats around Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong etc. If the state Libs and the useless O’Brien were decent opposition we would get a lot more answers as the local MP’s would risk losing their seats.

The wife is part of the PM's staff, Assistant to Jenny, about 85k salary I think. The fact they've been best friends since high school is a co-incidence. There's no doubt the US and UK intelligence agencies are aware of our PM's links to an organisation they consider a conspiracy-driven domestic terrorism, probably deeper links than Trump had publicly.

It's all a bit *smile* up. But then again politics around the world seems all a bit *smile* up. New Ltd + Social Media = Modern day Roman Fiddle

The lack of transparency on the decision making processes and criteria does my head in. A good opposition should be able to ask for this. What is the trade off of lives vs business impact we make - this is real stuff that happens every day in everything we do - consciously or unconsciously. Yeah it will get politicised but so what.

we need the same signposting on vaccine rollout too. I.e. subject to virus reproducibility / resistance to vaccine not changing this type of movement freedom will be changed at 70%, 80% etc etc.

I’ve had enough of make it up as we go now. That was fair enough last year but no longer.

Any credible opposition at federal or state level would make me vote the other way. Without a different political system the same dross will rise to the ‘top’ though.

Reading the ABC note about the story, it seems fairly tenuous. Sure this bloke is an absolute nutbag, but you'd have to show his nutbaggery has an affect on policy or strategy. If slomo was wise he'd banish this bloke and his wife just for optics - it's not a good look to be seen associating with these kind of far-right loonies.
