Finch making sure he takes some pressure off the Marsh brothers.

If you can’t make runs by playing straight you shouldn’t be in the team.

Good declaration. Steve Waugh would have batted until they were 600 in front if they could.

Would love someone like Steve Waugh who can play straight and bat some time. Our batters shot selection and defensive techniques hugely lacking.

Interesting times for Justin Langer

He has a bunch of guys that dont have one ounce of the grit determination, pride, application talent or desire he had, must drive him nuts.

Time to turf em out JL and start with a whole new batting line up .... serious.

The talented kids go to waste losing their techniques, and ability to play an innings because they are playing hit and giggle 20/20.

I blame 20/20. So much of it now it seems we can’t grind out a test innings has to be go for it quick as possible.

Might be down to instructions to try to put pressure on the bowlers by looking to score, but the techniques are not up to it on these decks. We've actually scored faster, 2.71 to 2.46.

Thought M.Marsh bowled OK and was really the only Australian to get any sideways movement at all. But in the end he had 0/51 and made 19 in two attempts. Preferred to see Handscomb before and after.

A stirling knock from Smarsh. Good for another 5 tests....

We all knew tough times were gunna come but we cant drop everyone who's failing with the bat otherwise we'd have a new top 6. Cant see Finch surviving though. Harris needs more time as does Head. M Marsh needs another demotion. Smarsh should too but it's not gunna happen.

Surely the Sydney test would be a great opportunity to give another chance to an opener like Renshaw, though he hasn’t been in great form his proven that he values his wicket and has patience that the others don’t seem to have. Sadly Shaun Marsh is probably in our best 6 batsman, however at 35 dosent Langer have to the nuts to say that’s it Shaun. Finch has to be the most idiotic selection decision made, never been a good red ball player and doesn’t even open for his state ffs so appauling. Not sure exactly who the replacement should be, however there’s been a lot of very good Australian players who showed a bit in there first stint as an international cricketer, however on there second chance they became starts so I’d like to think Joe Burns fits that criteria, other then that I hope we see some new faces over the next couple of years and when they come in they get a few tests to find there feet.

But, but but Handscomb has too many flaws according to everyone. Everyone thinks he's rubbish and should never play for Australia again. We all have such a habit in this country of ripping people to shreds if they don' t perform 100% of the time to our satisfaction.

Handscomb won't play for Australia again and both Marsh brothers will play at the SCG in the next test. Why does Shane Warne hate Peter Handscomb?

Just my rant LTRTR and I agree 110% with what you just said

Mitch Marsh’s selection may come down to a battle of wills between captain and coach. I don’t think Paine was all that happy with it.

Though not old for cricket, Warner is 32 and Smith turns 30 next year, really need someone of there batting class to start coming through, personally don’t want to see Warner play for Australia again even though his clearly our second best batsman

I wonder if we are starting to see the beginning of a Windies type decline. Kids getting lured to footy, basketball and soccer. While the ball tampering and tv rights sagas will be the thing that turns away the fans forever.

I don’t get it l think it’s pretty dammed simple. Both Marsh’s out Burns in to open, l know an opener to actually open, move Finch down to four and bring Wade in as a batsman.

Numbers are in decline at lower levels, where committing all your Saturdays to playing cricket is a foreign concept now. Talks are underway about merging Melbourne's three big eastern suburbs comps.

Reckon the time commitment is inexorably wearing away at cricket's popularity. A week is still 168 hours long; we're just choosing to spend those hours differently.

I've said it before but Australia needs to get Shane Warne involved.

He just nailed the selection for the Sydney test on Fox earlier this afternoon. Just finished reading his book, as an avid reader of sporting auto/biographies it was very different to most but what was clear was just what a rare insight he has into the game.

The coach ship has sailed for the time being but given he has a great relationship with Langer he may be able to work as a consultant.
I think his not unlike Mick Mcguane in the footy world

Cummins and Lyon are playing with a straight bat. I hope the so called top order are paying attention.

Great match for Cummins - best figures and highest score, and 9/15 wickets to fall.

Target down to 141. The Marsh decision might've been decisive.
