Just checked Maxwell's career ODI strike rate is 121.32, Kohli's 92.84, Ponting's 80.39, Tendulkar's 86.23, Lara 79.51 and Viv Richards 90.20.

Finch is not good enough, the slightest movement has always found him out. Usman can't work the singles, shouldn't be in the team. I hope Stoinis fans are taking a good look at the limited basher their man is. Maxwell being absolutely wasted, career sabotage.

Fair call, bit harsh on Stoinis.

Get Short in for Finch. No brainer.

Stoinis takes too long to get going. He can catch up but if he gets out any time in his first 30 balls he's wasted all of them. Like Khawaja, he doesn't work the singles.

Maxwell averaged 64.80 with a strike rate of 182 in the 2015 World Cup.

He's only ever opened once, in his 8th ODI, and made 51 not out off 35 balls (strike rate 146). He's batted at 3 once, in his 13th ODI, and made 32 off 20 balls (strike rate 160). He's batted at 4 six times, best score of 88, average 22, strike rate 156. At 5, he's batted 32 times, averages 33.87, strike rate 122.52. 29 innings at 6, average 29, strike rate 112. At 7, nine innings, average 49, strike rate 125.

Khawaja is only keeping #3 warm for Smith. They should give Maxwell a crack opening or at 3.

In quoting those stats, I was neither pro nor anti Maxwell ... merely providing the numbers requested.
There's no doubt he has had to go in much later than the other players listed, hence the higher strike rate and lower average.
I agree he has been seriously misused.
Take today for example, if he and Stoinis has been reversed in the order they most likely both would have done better.

I agree with him opening or batting first drop, he's a match winner.
It's interesting when you look at his test career, he has opened the batting, and batted at 3,4,5,6,7,and 8. All those batting positions in just seven test.

Just on Maxwell, he’s gotta be a little smarter when batting than to continually try and thump everything off side with that “no foot movement, off balance, windy woof” style (I think that’s the technical cricket term...)

He sorta got away with it last night but it’s not a long term strategy for success.

Yes i thought he was swinging too hard yesterday, he's much better when he just times the ball.

Hard to have a conversation about Maxfield without a conspiracy theory emerging. I would love to see him swap places with Finch and open on Friday. He is a terrific bat particularly on slower wickets and the size of the ground creates further opportunities. If he bats at number 7, he won’t get in.

Carey out early in deciding ODI, just don't see him as the answer in any format, as a batsman or a keeper.

Maxwell should open with Handscomb to take the gloves.

On a more positive note, Burns, Renshaw and Labuschagne made 17 between them in the CA XI game.
Kurtis Patterson got 157 n.o.
Pucovski made 23.

Patterson is a talent, he's the youngest player to score a shield century. I saw him get a ton against Wa a couple of months ago at the new stadium , he goes ok.

Michael Vaughan just said that most countries around the world will be delighted to see Maxwell batting at 7.

That looks like the end of Finch (14). Khawaja escapes with another moderate score (34)

And he is so right.
He bats at 7 and in the first two games he bowled two and four overs. Why do they pick him? His fielding?
I initially thought that they should just swap him and Stoinis in the order but I'm starting to think he should be at 4.

He could open, ahead of Finch or Carey on form.
