Cricket

Both umpires have been booted from the series. Actually thought Wilson was pretty good in the last test, but Gaffney was terrible.
Wasn't Wilson third umpire in the second test - the one who gave Labuschabne out of the half volley catch? Or do you mean the third test, where he choked under pressure?

Yes that's correct, he couldn't even make the right decision when he had time to think about it.

Test just gone. Having said that, he should've been stood down after the 1st Test.

Standing by my view on DRS regarding the Lyon non-LBW. Derek Pringle suggested the technology was fooled by the ball deflecting off Stokes' front pad. That's the most likely possibility for mine.

Geez, wasn't that a *smile* up.

From Harris catch, Paine's review, Lyon's run out to umpires non-call.

One thing, it adds even more interest to the final two tests.

Depends on the sampling rate. They should be able to get sufficient samples nowadays to plot the trajectory and estimate the uncertainty well before it hit the pad and any sudden deflection will(should?) be accounted for. I guess there's some sort of Kalman filter or similar that is employed in the tracking and what is displayed is the most likely trajectory. Unfortunately, we don't see the spread of possible trajectories but that probably just complcates things. for the viewer (and me!).

Alex Carey has been brought into the Ashes squad and is going to keep in the tour match against Derbyshire.

Incorrect. He's come in as cover for all those rested who played the Test.

Not in squad. Just filling in.

Cheers, damn radio sports news can't be trusted.

The sooner we get Australia's best wicket-keeper/batsmen into the test side the better the Australian test side will be.

Who captains TM? Head?
I'm on record as saying that Paine would be unlucky to be dropped and deserves to keep the Captaincy for the Ashes series.
But after giving it some thought i reckon the best keeper/batsmen should be in the side.
I admire Paine for all the adversity that he's had with his finger and the job that he's done since become Captaincy, but in what is going to be a very tight series we need all the runs we can get.
While there's no guarantee Carey will get runs, he's a lot better batsmen than Paine, so he should be in the side.

So to answer your question, yes Head to Captain for the remainder of the series.

Ok I think I’m finally ready to think about cricket again.

Paine must go. Wicketkeepers shouldn’t be captains.

DRS from directly behind the batsman doesn’t work.

As Carey is the better batter (by far) then Paine is out.

I’d drop Khawaja for Smith too.
