I'm not 100% sure but I think Cummins didn't want to use the review; it was Paine's call.

But yeah the Lyon miss on the run out was absolute amateur stuff.

I think plenty have missed that the throw to Lyon was very poor. Should have taken it but don’t reckon he fumbles a better throw.

Always had a soft spot for him from when he was a young wick / batsman in the mould of Gilly. Nowadays he is nothing like that. If he wasnt an (average captain) he wouldnt even be selected.

Yeah it wasn't the best but no excuse for Lyon. It was chest high and an easy take. He then takes 1-2 steps to the stumps and takes of the bails with Leach at least 2m out of his ground.

Inexcusable from a professional cricketer.

It wasn't Pattinson bowling the short and wide tripe for most of that last wicket stand. It was Hazelwood and Cummins. Pattinson got the last wicket LBW with a yorker.
Did they bowl another yorker after the Broad dismissal?
Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Fast bowlers aren’t made captain for a reason. They love to bounce the tail when bowling at the top of off is generally the most dangerous ball to a number 11. It’s ok to intimidate when circumstances allow but when you need to get a number 11 out you need to be smarter.

Reckon Paine tried to use it as a circuit-breaker; he must've known it wasn't out but his team needed some relief from the onslaught, if only momentary. It was all happening too quickly.
Not only did it pitch outside leg stump, it him outside leg stump, a gobsmacking review.

Duds just dropped the Ashes I reckon.

They are trolling us with duds like Burns and Denley and Butler and Roy who thinks hes playing 20/20 and that Leech bloke FFS.

That Umpire was a dead set cheating not giving that out the prick was too scared to put the finger up thats the only explanation it was as out as could be also he knew there were no appeals left so he'd be ok.

As for no appeals leftPaine needs to get a flogging for appealing for a leg side ball .....................................that in turn along with Lyons disastrous effort also cost the match as has his inability to score any runs in the entire campaign.

I was a Paine fan but the lad is cooked now we missed the best of him due to injuries, its time for Carey.

Time also for SS to unofficially re tajke the reins I'm afraid he needs to be calling the shots to Paine.

Next Test

In Smith, Sidds

Out Pattinson Khawaja.

Marnus to bat at 3

Saw the replay in real speed of the Stokes LBW it looked pretty bad - Stokes was pretty much dead in front after missing & over-balancing. The ump was a bit gun shy from his previous errors and froze.

In some ways its better as it makes the last 2 tests compulsory viewing with the series in the balance (assuming the aussies don't win the 4th test).

Watching the replay of the missed runout it was Cummins who threw the ball to Lyon. You watch the replay and he checks his throw - I assume so he didn't make a mess of it. But it has potentially skidded on from the adjacent pitch it was so wide so I can sympathise a bit for Lyon. A better throw doesn't put him under any pressure, its 50% on Cummins for me.

great test and great finish, but even Vaughan who was *smile*-a-hoop said he had no idea why it wasn't given, because the ump would have known England had a review and would have used it. Froze as you say. Its hard to blame him with that crowd going beserk. Shocker.

How the hell does Joel Wilson keep his place on the test umpiring panel for the Ashes. He is pathetic, he had a shocking test match in the first test which should have been enough to win him an airfare back home. But no he then umpires the third test and makes a mess of that as well.
The standard of umpiring since the implementation of the DRS has gone down hill. Just appoint the best umpires, i don't care where they come from.

This this series will bring to and end the test careers of Paine and Usman . Usman gotta to be dropped for the next test his batting has and fielding has been uuug . Paine should be dropped but wont as hes the captain .. shame Alex Carey and Kurtis Patterson are not in the squad .

Nup. 100% Lyon. Ball was thrown at reasonable speed, one bounce off the wicket area. He simply didn't watch the ball into his hands. No excuses.

Yep. Throw was fine. Lyon took his eyes off the ball and stuffed it up.
No-one's fault but Lyon's.

Vaughan is full of crap, advocating that the ump should essentially cheat. If the review had come back as "umpire's decision holds" what then? Stokes is given out when the ump doesn't think it is out or the ump changes his decision to not out? That would go over a treat...

Disagree but all cool. Cummins is a gun fielder but I bet if asked he would say it was a *smile* throw. Lyon should not have been attempting to catch it on the bounce and 2m from the stumps, it just added to the pressure. It should have been on the full and over the bails. Lyon is actually a pretty handy fielder himself so would be devastated he stuffed it up but Cummins did him no favours.
