As a free agent this year he would command upwards of $750k on a four year deal.
Unfortunately we wouldn't be in a position to match that but we could improve our position in the draft with smart negotiating and fill his spot with Garthwaite.

Mr Brightside said:I said to a couple of Pre Enders late last year that the one Premiership player that wouldn’t want to have an interrupted pre season was Astbury, main reason was because of the emergence of Garthwaite and Balta, now I don’t think either are better then Down the line at this stage and Garthwaite is starting way behind the 8 ball now due to injury, however we will lose players , weather it’s an older premiership player I.e Astubury, Ellis or we may just lose a youngster on the improve , tough times for Balmey at seasons end. Hope we keep Astbury, as strong marking defenders are not that easy to find, plus he forms part of a great cohesive unit with Rance, Grimes and Vlaustin and that just doesn’t happen over night.
I was rightly laughed at when I bought up my fear of losing big Nank due to the fact he will come out of contract and be demanding a big pay rise at seasons end, if the club has great faith in CCJ and Balta as a ruck combo come seasons end it may be hard to match what come for Nank as well as what free agents Astbury and Ellis get offered as there’s a hell of a lot of cap space going towards 6 players on the list.
Touchwood Houli stays fit, however at this stage you’d think it’s more likely then unlikely they will retire at seasons end, I think your spot on re Ellis, I’d say his manger is already well into contract talksTOT70 said:Ellis will be let go, in all likelihood. That won't be bad business either. He will most likely get a decent contract somewhere else and we are very unlikely to get another Free Agency deal this year. We won't be able to afford another Lynch and we won't need a 27 year-old journeyman type, so that will probably mean at pick around second round somewhere for Brandon, which will be fair.
Grigg? Houli? Astbury? Edwards? Someone else will go. Probably all will go over the next 2-3 years.
Grigg will be looking for a coaching gig soon, I would guess. He may be the first.

Development coaches 8-TOT70 said:Yeah, all of that group are important to us but we will need to lose most of them sooner rather than later. Lynch's deal is heavily back-ended, from all accounts, which means that a couple of careers will end a year early somewhere along the line.
They are all good clubmen and reasonably intelligent guys who would not be out of place if they turn up as development coaches when their careers end. They might even go and assist Chris Newman at Box Hill. They will all be looked after.

There was a poll on here et, I may have even started it and was something along the lines of favourite player outside the big 4 and I think DTLD was the only player who didn’t get a vote , it’s rare to come across a big fan or a big critic of him, though in saying that his legion of fans must be a silent mob as there’s a hell of a lot of the big number 12s worn on gurnseys at the footyeasy said:Yep its inevitable well lose a great bloke at some stage.
Signing Dusty and Bringing in Lynchy, which wernt quite buddy deals, but not out of the ball park, will cost us a good player/s
Buddy cost Mummy (and a premiership
And in the brutal world of life and footy,
I dont reckon there'd be 10 tigers in a hundred who wouldnt nominate Down The Line out of the Back Big 4 to relinquish, if we had to relinquish 1 of them or Nank.
Its a horrible conversation, but one that the list blokes are gonna have to have.

Criticizing DTLD is like saying you dont like cornflakes, but who amongst us didnt go for the cocopops or fruitloops in the little mini 8 pack smorgasboard?
Sure they’re not just Richo fans who haven’t changed the number on their jumpers? I like Dave. A few years ago I thought he was done. Now he’s got a Premiership medal and close to AA a couple of times.Mr Brightside said:There was a poll on here et, I may have even started it and was something along the lines of favourite player outside the big 4 and I think DTLD was the only player who didn’t get a vote , it’s rare to come across a big fan or a big critic of him, though in saying that his legion of fans must be a silent mob as there’s a hell of a lot of the big number 12s worn on gurnseys at the footy

Poor old Dave has one bad game on the back of a tummy bug and he's out the door.
