Frank's fails or How to get rid of it

I've argued elsewhere that our best eighteen has been in decline for three years due to Frank's poor performance in the first round of the ND.

I think the facts speak for themselves there.

Code:
Reece Conca
Brandon Ellis
Nick Vlastuin
Ben Lennon
Corey Ellis

These blokes are busts. Except Brandon who can ackshelly get a kick. (He's the only one you'd keep.)

The longer we wait the less likely we are to get a refund. On these busts.

Freshness matters. These lads have some currency. And very good character.

We can get something for these blokes now. Draft choices next year (2017) are good too.

It's time to face some facts. Five years of failed first rounders hurt us a lot. Let us not live in La-la land.

Trade these Frank fails while they are worth something.

If our current football department can't see that - let's get rid of it.

Cellis is far from a bust - quite the opposite IMO.

Lennon needs a run of games.

Vlastuin yet to be fully tested in a more responsible position.

Bellis has been Hardwicked unfortunately. Doubt there's any coming back from that.

Agree on Concrete feet.

Cloke kicked eight on Rance once. You're taking it hard, Jack. Babies and bathwater flyin' everywhere.

Vlastuin is more like Nooman, spook. ;D

This is obvious. It's fact facing time.

Fasolo took Vlas deep to the goal square and Hardwick did *smile* all about it.

By more responsible, I meant getting him into the middle when it counts, and letting him have his head, as they say in racing parlance.

Dude. You know Flosstone is going nowhere. And as Midsy says, we gotta try him in the guts. Which we will once we have Lids, Yaz and KMac back.

Last week you declared Lennon a senior player. Cialis can get it 20+, and use it. Bellis is the one that has to go. He still has value because he can get a kick. Let someone else deal with the mess he creates after that. Conca can go too, if we can get anything for him. Ditto Edwards and Vickery.

I agree with you Jack with the exception of Cialis. Never understood a lot of the Vlastuin love. Barely an above average flanker. Lennon and Conca look miles behind Rioli, Short and Markov. Brandon who knows. I think a new coach would reinvigorate him.

This bloke didn't bring lynch to the club, therefore I don't trust him with any of our picks let alone 1st rounders.
Very ordinary recruiter. He would match the great recruiters of the late 90's
Greg Beck gold
This bloke silver

Agree with most on CEllis. Manage him well as he bulks up (we must bias our mids towards bulk) and he could be anything. Lids like in some ways. Knights like too.

I've been wishing for a long time that we would follow the Geelong route (the one Giants followed) and get or develop our mids into solid bodied units. Martin is part bulldozer part ballerina. Miles is all dozer. Need more beef in the guts.

I like Vlas. But I'd keep him only if they believe they can extract more flair. Dour he's got. If the plan is "more of the same" I'd show him - and the bloke who thinks more of the same is the way forward - the door.

The rest, throw a blanket over 'em.

Pretty sad list isn't it.

5 first round picks and that's the best we could cobble together.

Where is the class? The skill? The speed?

This is where you find your game changers, and we find vanilla flankers who either cant get a kick, or cant kick when they get it.

Think about what Wells or Beatson would find with those 5 picks.

I often wonder if the other teams are sitting at draft day pissing themselves laughing when we read our first pick out, and they have to flick through three pages of their list to mark them off.

Agree. .recruiters from others clubs would be going, "here they go again" "who?"

Every club would like Have the next pick after Richmond in the draft. They know in reality their picks move up by one.

You could also go back to 2008 and Vickery. Massive fail.

I disagree on Vlastuin. He can be a player with a decent coach. At least he has traits that you need in premiership players. Hard as a cat's head, thirst for the contest, skills are pretty good. Lacks a yard of pace but his other attributes can cover that. If only he had a good coach.

Jury is out on Cellis. Too early to call. Skills look good but does he have the body and mind for AFL footy?

Conca's hopeless. Frank should be sacked on that selection alone. Ridiculous reach at pick 6. Grave doubts on Lennon. Talented but to me looks to have a *smile* attitude, looks lazy and is slow.

Bellis is a shame. Can play but reckon his confidence has been terribly shaken by poor coaching. Not sure he comes back from that. Trade him whilst he has currency.

Tough on CEllis. Agree he has been disappointing to date but been severely injured in both years and appears to have OP.

I reckon C Ellis is par. Floss was a bit of a reach but is and will be solid. The rest agree.

What would people think was par with that hand of picks? 1 star, 2 very good, 1 or 2 busts?

As always in these discussions, I'd love to know how other clubs, and particularly good clubs have gone with 5 mid-ish first round picks.
