Game Day vs St Kilda

Can someone tell me when the rule changed and the game is now allowed to be stopped until an injured player is replaced?

Brad Hill rolled his ankle and the whole game has to be stopped and we wait for his replacement to come onto the field, just for him to come back on 5 minutes later.

What happened to the good old days when Dion Prestia gets knocked into next month and the Cats just chip it around him and kick a goal.

I was at the ground today, couldn't fault the endeavour but the forward line was just too short. Struggled big time. Shai was incredible with some of the *smile* he pulled off. Millar was outstanding. Maurice really has been a revelation last two weeks, gone from out the door to believing again. Wind was super funky, all over the shop all day. In the end, outclassed but not disheartened given our injuries. Oh, Nank, purple heart.

That was a very deliberate goal and a bloody good one. Smart as well as it be probably would have been smothered if he kicked it in the air.

He is a very good kick but he seems to not take time when he has it, which could be just senior experience. Posted earlier that he is a midfielder imo, not a forward.
Agree he has to be a mid; lacks the size or speed for anything else. I'm just not convinced he will make it. Even from VFL form, I think McAuliffe will surpass him in a season or two.

Edit: came back to add that yes, he seemed slow to think and decide what to do with the pill, so got caught. Playing on VFL time still? Needs to be more decisive and quick to act.

I said exactly this when it happened!

Shafted by the umps again, Higgins ran 20 + metres when he kicked that goal.

I don't mind if we have a season of losses like that and get a top-5 pick. Some really good signs from all the kids.

Oh, and as far as the eye test goes (disclaimer: many beers), I liked Tom Brown today, composed.

Yep. Would be unhappy if we played all the old blokes to squeeze a few wins and go into mid table obscurity.

Yze said that Kosi will hold his spot. Geez I saw nothing in his game that screamed out he should be playing seniors.
Cumberland in and Lefau out. Time to up our scoring power and make our forward line more dangerous. A bit more unpredictability.

I'd also have Ryan or Naismith in and Kosi out. But the Ooze says Kosi will hold his place.

Gotta say I thought Kozi cracked in. He's no key forward, but as the pinch ruck guy, I reckon he won a few contested possessions. Not sure you would have got more from Sampson.

Perhaps on Samson but Naismith would've given us more. He would contest every contest. Kosi just doesn't get to contest to contest which you need to when you're the main man up forward. Kosi should be crunching packs like Lynch and Balta do. Im not convinced, don't think he has that killer instinct but happy to be proven wrong.

Thought i heard that it was the blood rule. He did return to the field with a bandage around his lower leg.

Agree. I thought we were a key forward short. When Nankervis went off, Kossi was in the ruck, our “key forwards” were Bolton and Lefau! How do you expect them to compete against Wilkie, Battle and Cordy when the football is dumped in our F50?

Kossi needs to have more matches under his belt, he isn’t going to kick 2+ per match, just needs to compete and take a key defender.

Graham … hmmm, should’ve had him as the sun and McAuliffe starting …

Brown kicking 👍🏼 Miller, Nankervis, Bolton - very good!

Broad, Martin, MJR - good …

Dan Rioli - not bad too …

If we want to develop a key forward, we need to give Ryan a crack! Play him!

Naismith would’ve been a good choice to work over Marshall and leave Kossi deep in our F50 as a target.

Dow, puts his head over it and that’s about it. Needs to get more than below-20, unlucky to roll the ankle.

Short, hmmm Vice-Captain, looking like he is intimidated every time he is near or has the football, he needs to lift 10% for us to win matches.

Like most posters on here, what will they do with Grimes, Prestia, Hopper, Lynch?

Lynch back around Round 18? Play Kossi and Ryan?

Grimes? Who do you drop? Miller and Young holding their own, thought Young on King was a good match up, King at full reach and jump is hard to beat.

Prestia? Who? Clearly Dow is a starting 22 with Yze, so we have to live with that. I wouldn’t drop McAuliffe. Ross is growing, mid-20s possessions …

Hopper? Do we offer him up and get rid of his salary? Or do we stick with him and build the young cubs: Dow, McAuliffe, Bolton, Baker, 2024 1st Round Pick around him with Taranto???

Who knows if Baker will be with us?

I thought Mansell was a waste … 1 OK match last week out of 5?

Campbell, MJR, Sonsie is enough clever smalls …

Baker comes in for who? Sonsie created chances and have goal sense … not sure if Mansell does …

I rather Mansell as a lock down back pocket player …

Lost a winnable match in a quarter and failed to attack the match.

They stopped the game for a moment when he went down- i guess worried it was serious. Then they called a blood rule- on Hill.

They changed that rule after Prestia face smashed in off the ball by Stewart.

If we had one of Balta or Lynch we win yesterday. To lose both key forwards in the same quarter of the same game to medium long term injuries is unbelievable. The area we have no cover. Good effort by the boys otherwise.

The AFL is such a knee jerk poorly run organisation. Volunteer parents at milo cricket have more idea how to organise *smile*.

With the stoppages now for any injured player and every score being reviewed the game is fast becoming a joke.

I spoke to 'EX' Hawthorn CEO and neighbour at pre-season training, he was walking his do and stopped to yell out encouragement to Kozi. He said to me that he is lovely kid but he is only a third forward "and will never be a key target"
Probably why Hawks were not fussed to lose him and why early doors with us Kozi is showing no signs of filling the 2nd key role.

There's no such thing as a third forward.

That's just a guy who's not good enough to be a second tall, which is a guy who's not good enough to be a key forward.

Every VFL player over 195 cm is a third forward.

It's arguable you even need a third tall forward. We had two key forwards in Riewoldt and Lynch and that was plenty.

Basically, Kosi is not good enough to be the main guy, or the second main guy, and if we do have two main guys, he's not required.

Norwood oval really is the baby brother of Adelaide Oval. Its a beautiful place. I liked the dynamic of the game being contested. It was working for us but St Kilda wised up.
