So, the HUN today has a 16 page wraparound about global warming and how Australia can be a renewable energy superpower.

As part if this big spread they approvingly quoted Margaret Thatcher who talked about the fact that global warming is a threat and we have to act . . . back in 1990.

Well, they're not the quickest on the uptake down at New Ltd, it took them decades to realise that Australia is very well positioned for renewable energy and that global warming is a problem which is largely of human making.

Mind you, that moron Andrew Bolt was still spouting his drivel a bit later in the paper, it seems some are even slower on the uptake.

I suppose if you want your news 30 years late, read the Murdoch Press, of course, if you want to be even more out of date, read Andrew Bolt's drivel.

Gee, some people are still slow learners and clutching on to various wacky ideas.

Averaged over the complete solar cycle, there’s been minimal long-term change in the Sun’s overall brightness since the start of the Industrial Revolution. Records of sunspots show increased solar activity during the first 7 decades of the 20th century, likely tied to the peak of the last 100-year Gleissberg Cycle. Following that peak around 1960, solar activity declined. In fact, activity during the most recent solar cycle is among the lowest in a century. Meanwhile, the rate of global warming has accelerated over the past few decades.

Grow up, even Murdoch has seen the writing on the wall.

And now you are quoting a Russian propaganda arm. It was literally set up by the Kremlin to spread disinformation in the west.

Seriously, only a dullard would fall for this nonsense.

Essentially that's how major scientific advances come about. Definitely not via consensus.

When Thomas Kuhn published The Structure of Scientific Revolutions he definitely didn't have this nuttery in mind. You know anyone can upload any old shyte to researchgate.net right?

Seems to be the Russian equivalent of Voice of America (voanews.com). One might even draw parallels with the ABC. Nothing in the article is overtly propagandist or sensationalist.

He's just putting his ideas out there. I don't necessarily subscribe to his 150-year solar delay theory; he's using different reasoning to arrive at a similar conclusion to others, i.e. forecasting a 30-years-plus downturn in global temperature.

That's a lot of words. You could have just said he's full of sh1t.

Nope, not even close. It's a Russian propaganda farm paid for by the Kremlin - read the buzzfeed article for how it works.

1 scientist, and he has apparently found something thousands of other scientists haven't.

Yeah right.

DS

He's qualified but not attached to any research institute, works for a private company that "consults" on climate change issues - ie a shill of the oil companies and conservatives. I doubt he has any work published in peer reviewed journals, maybe some fake ones.

Now that even @LeeToRainesToRoach beloved Murdoch press has abandoned climate change denialism all he has left are Russian propaganda mills and lone nutters publishing on researchgate. And the usual assortment of denialist blogs.

Tough times to be a denier.

Human activity is the main driver of observed warming. It is as simple as that.

Even the slow learners at News Ltd have finally caught up and possibly even SloMo might realise this at some point. But SloMo has been asleep at the wheel on so many issues it will likely take a while.

Yep, he has a publication record in geology, fair call. Note that none of his denialist papers are published by genuine scholarly peer reviewed journals. They are all conference papers or presentations at symposiums.

You are fooled so easily. It's because you desperately want this point of view to have scientific legitimacy - the worst kind of confirmation bias. Denialist scientists outside their area of expertise, Russian propaganda mills and crackpot blogs. Pretty sad really.

Your just objecting for the sake of it. He's been published in numerous geological journals and has researched sea level rise (which incidentally he predicts will exceed IPCC forecasts). That doesn't make him right, but he's obviously no dummy.
