Grand Final 2020 Thread Richmond Vs Geelong / Game Day Thread

The Emma Murray and Ben Crowe stuff is fantastic listening. One of Emma's points was not to play the game in your head beforehand or you'll be exhausted come game time. I think we saw that with Brisbane. They were sluggish from the start against Geelong, like they'd been playing that game for the past two weeks - unsurprising on reflection considering they're a mob who get ahead of themselves, much like Melbourne. Credit to Port for not falling into that trap.

So the Cats lost to Port then beat two cooked sides. Collingwood were simply done (Perth to Qld most taxing flight in footy), and the Bears, as I said, wore themselves out thinking about their impending 'deserved' premiership. There's a bit of that with Dangerfield's comments, and the talk around Ablett. Plus they have plenty who haven't been there before. They might be trying to poach Emma, but currently they are led by three blokes (Scott, Selwood, Danger) who from afar don't really appear to buy into that vulnerability sh!t.
But they have Grigg there with them. Gees I hope he's taken this week off sick.

Will the Covid bubble/hub burst at the final siren on Saturday?

i.e. will players (of the winning side, obviously) be permitted to crowd surf with a premiership cup full of XXXX?

Most of our team are dual Premiership players, with a couple that "only" have won one Premiership medal. They know what's needed and won't have the same nerves as Geelsook.

Then there is Noah Balta. He'll have his first medal on Saturday night.

It will be awesome to see Balta with a medal swinging around his neck.
Will be rapt for him.

There's every chance the players won't give a stuff about covid protocols in the aftermath of the premiership ... and who could blame them for being forgetful in the moment.

We need to be prepared for a Geelong team that's playing like the club's survival depends on it. Because it does. When you get beaten by RFC in a Grand Final, you stay beaten.

Have always believed that competitive matches are always better than training-type runs against poor opposition.
Ice is always present in changing rooms after matches, so I'm not too fussed that Richmond players were tending to some sore points.
Reckon it was a godsend that Brisbane beat us in the first week of finals (they played it like it WAS their grand final).
Given the unusual circumstances of the season and the hub situation, it's been good for the players to have competitive hit outs each week leading into the GF.
Reckon Geelong will have been marginally lulled into a different expectation of what this game is all about.
The Tigers, now with so much GF experience, will bring the heat and their attack on the footy and the contest will stun Geelong.
I am very confident that the Tigers know how to win the BIG one, whereas it's going to be a vastly new experience for the Cats.
I feel you. This week has been hard as hell and sleep is at a premium. I just hope we come out and beat them like they stole something.

For me, winning this year would erase 25 years of endless abuse I've copped from Geesook supporters. From forlorn days at the G as Gary Snr kicked a lazy 10, to sitting in the Geelong members section in pouring rain at VFL Park in 95 as we were torn to shreds. It would close the door for me and would be our piece de resistance!
A lazy 10 ?
There were times in that era when the RFC would have been happy to come away from a game v Geelong with GAS kicking only 10.

Round 9, 1989 at the G. 14.2.
Round 20, 1990 at the G. 12.2.
Round 8, 1993 at Geelong. 12.1.
And then there was the day he actually did kick 10 against us - 10.4 at the G in round 4, 1988.

He kicked 118 goals in 20 games against us.
Hard to fathom that they actually lost two of those games.

The Covid protocols are lifted on the final siren.

My only concerns too and not many apart from you and me have brought this up.
Hope like hell that wasn’t our...

We owe The Geelong Divers a lot more pain.

To beat them in the GF would ease somewhat some of the pain they inflicted us.

To lose to them is just ‘unthinkable’.

City of Geelong are loving this, people out, pubs open , friends over & out in the streets.

Us in Melb , In Richmond city it just sad to not be able to watch it with friends, family, a barbecue, a drink..

The nerves have started and it’s Thursday. Don’t know how I’m going to go until Saturday NIGHT not Day , Saturday NIGHT.

I just can’t imagine having to listen to Scott, Dangerfield or Ablett if they were to ...can’t fathom it. I just can’t.
Not going to lie I am like this. Been a really hard week and I have not listened to any media.

Ps: So much so, that I didn't even open that bottle last week because I didn't want it to be our ....

Anyone who was expecting the teams to be announced tonight...

No.

Even though it’s a GF, first outside of Melb and at the Gabba ( night ) the AFL will stick to the clubs naming the sides 24 hours out.

Disappointing.

Here's me waiting for Ch 7 to release the teams on the news as they get a few minutes head start

yep. you only have to try recognising what's firing off in the head for 20 seconds,

to realise how mental we all are

(Im assuming everyone's 20 seconds goes something like Dusty, Lynchy, Russian Camelot, Naked woman, naked woman, Russian Camelot, dusty, dusty, $hai, naked woman, Russian Camelot, $hai, dusty, naked woman?)

and how tough it is to recognise and hush down.
Great minds eZ.

I'm pretty sure they use stats to record AFL player ratings, comes from Champion Data.

Take them all with a pinch of salt.

When your worst player (from those ratings) is Noah Balta, then we are doing something right.

I’ve kept clear of a lot of media this year around the GF, and that’s an example of why. You rank the players AFTER the game, not before it.

Yeah we had beaten them at the Bowling Alley in 2006. Pretty sure the massacre at Chernobyl in 2007 was the first in a sequence of wins against us (was it 13 or 14 straight) that only ended when we beat them in the 2017 QF (we actually should have beaten them in late 2016 but, yeah, Ben Lennon).

In the dark years from 1983 - 2016 Geelong dominated us probably more than a team has dominated another team in any period I can recall. Even when we made finals in 1995 and 2001 they still beat us. They were better than us in 1995 but in 2001 they were *smile* and they still beat us. I remember going to the game at the Bowling Alley and it was all square at 3/4 time only for them to end up winning by 5 goals!! *smile* long drive home with a Geelong supporter in the car! That was the chicken *smile* game.

They really *smile* me Geelong. We owe them a lot more pain. Let's pile it on them on Saturday!
just realised the 2001 loss was in H&A Not finals.
