So at the moment it looks like Tengrove or Butcher if we stayed pick 4 & obviously depending on who Melb take at 2

I reckon it will probably depend on Melbourne, they still need a strong marking forward like us so if they take 2 mids with 1 and 2 it will mean they will probably go for someone like Griffiths in Rd2, in which case we probably do need to pick up Butcher with our first pick unless we determine someone like Luke MacDonald can be picked up with our 2nd pick.

Just watching the second video, the guy for Country who kicked it to Buttcher in the last highlight I wouldn't back in to be an AFL player as couldn't kick more than 40 meters.

from the looks of that video his kicking is pretty good.

he doesn`t have a beautiful flowing style but he doesn`t think to much about kicking it which is good,he just goes back and then runs straight at the goals(unlike morton and franklin for example),he does drop it a little bit high but he kicks through it well.

I appreciate I'm not an AFL talent scout but I didn't see a whole lot to get excited about in that 3 and a half minutes of "highlights'. I know it's hard to showcase your abilities in 1 games extracts but I assume he has more to offer than that.

Or am I being too hard?

backline of thursty, moore, rance, mcguane, post, tambling aint so bad either

Yes it is too small and lacks skill.

Scratch McGuane and possibly Moore with Rance and Post given key roles and the structure looks better with Willy T as 3rd tall.

How many of the power forwards today are actually great kicks?

Brown, Fevola and Lloyd would be the one's that spring to mind.

Of the new school forwards, only Anthony shows technical prowess but even he has lost a bit of composure under pressure (and is hardly a 'power' forward). Roughie, Franklin, Cloke and Tippett all have questionable techniques and then there's the old schoolers such as Riewoldt and Pavlich who are a 50/50 proposition from 40 metres.

In the end, there's few gurantees even with junior prodigies such as Brad Ottens whose accuracy has been decimated by back injuries. Our own Jack Riewoldt has a sound technique but seems to be succombing to regular brain fades in front of goal.

With Butcher, I say the risk is worth taking as even a 60% conversion will be comparable to most power forwards. His field kicking may also suffer but if he's played deep this shouldn't pose too many issues.

a bit hard. that wasn't a great game for butcher. had some better games in the carnival (eg the 1st one against vic metro when he kicked 5 i think). talk is he had a few injuries during the carnival (shoulder and finger) but played through it despite being double or triple teamed every game.

his TAC cup form is pretty awesome.

Didn't see much in the highlights package to suggest a top 3 pick

Me neither, could be a slider I reckon.

Trengove is our man if he is available IMO.

Does anyone know how many goals he has kicked this season ?
I haven't seen much of Butcher, but I wouldnt judge him on one game, but didn't he kicks 3 or 4 in an average game ?

Do we know how many total scoring shots from those 9 games??

Not too sure mate, I am sure one of our stat guru's would be able to find that out.

I heard from one recruiter he goes about 68% in all competitions. I haven't confirmed if that is correct or not so don't take it as gospel.

thanks mate, is this his second year in the tac ? if so how did he go last year ?

Pretty sure I heard TAC Cup Future Stars say he kicked 40 last year. I remember last season he was a dominant big man, hence the reputation at the start of the year.

This year he had a thumb problem and shoulder problems therefor only playing 9 games.

Look for a big finals series from him.

No worries buddy. I think Melbourne will take him but if they take Trengove instead...I'd still be happy with Butcher.

OOPS...Dee's 2 goals in front at 1/4 time!!

Can't be too long before they deploy the tank in the field surely...it would be an absolute miracle if the Dee's win (Sylvia is on fire BTW w/12 first quarter touches and a goal...at least then we could pick and choose either Trengove/Butcher.

Any chance that the Dee's would take Trengove or Butcher with pick 1 and leave us with Scully at 2 in miracle world??

Not a chance.

Would be happy with Trengove, Butcher or Morabito.

Pick 2 or 3 we will get a good one.

When considering Morabito, What are your thoughts on Dustin Martin as an alternative? Is he a more complete footballer in terms of skill, decision making, ball winning ability? Are Morabito's physical attributes making people drool too much on his potential too much?
