In fairness Corr is a pretty good pick up. Not a star, but he is a freebie as a free agent. Unless they are way overpaying him I guess.

Yeah, don't know much about Corr but liked the expression "incoming whale"

Hmmmm. Interesting one.

Ben Brown told to look for a new home

Ben Brown's career at North Melbourne is all but over, with the club telling him to look for a new home after contract negotiations fell apart.

Industry sources have confirmed to The Age that the 27-year-old full-forward, who has endured a difficult season, has been encouraged to talk to other clubs so that a trade can be arranged.

Brown is out of contract but not a free agent.

It caps off an unfathomable 12 months for Brown, who this time last year had kicked more than 60 goals in three consecutive seasons.

Form and injury saw him kick just eight goals in nine games in 2020, while Brown also endured a personal tragedy off the field.

Sources close to Brown's negotiations with North Melbourne have told The Age he was offered a three-year contract at the start of 2020 worth upwards of $750,000 per season.

Brown and his management rejected that offer, wanting a longer-term deal.

North Melbourne are no longer willing to renegotiate and have advised Brown and his management to look elsewhere.

It continues the club's hardline list management approach under new football boss Brady Rawlings and young coach Rhyce Shaw.

North Melbourne last week announced the delisting of 11 players, including leadership group members Jamie Macmillan and Jasper Pittard, as well as comeback hero Majak Daw.

Shaw believes Brown's lead-up play is not suited to his preferred game style, which in many ways mirrors that of his former club Sydney – slower, considered ball movement that prioritises contested possession.

Brown's manager, former Essendon premiership player Adam Ramanauskas, has reached out to Hawthorn, Collingwood and Gold Coast.

Hawthorn confirmed to The Age that they're not interested.

Collingwood's salary cap remains reasonably tight and the Magpies are concentrating on re-signing All-Australian squad member Darcy Moore and star mid/forward Jordan De Goey.

The Suns are still entertaining the idea of trading for Brown, but are questioning whether his presence in their forward line would help or hinder the development of young forward Ben King.

Ramanauskas was contacted for comment.

It remains to be seen whether North Melbourne would consider having him back if no club is willing to offer a decent trade in exchange for him.

Brown's case remains a curious one. Since his second season in 2015, he has barely missed a game and booted 63, 61 and 64 goals from 2017 through to 2019, closely behind the Coleman medalist's tally in all three seasons.

His critics would suggest he struggles to find the football unless it's delivered on a lead and that he has far less impact once the ball hits the ground.

But his record is hard to argue with, given how often experts lament the lack of goal-kicking forwards in the modern game.

His tally of 188 goals in his last three seasons before 2020 is more than the last two Coleman medallists Tom Hawkins and Jeremy Cameron kicked during the same period.

The trade period will take place from November 4-12, with the free agency period commencing on October 30.

Looks like 2020 has been the year to open the eyes of the powers that be at Arden Street.

For 11 to already be out the door and the likes of Brown being touted as on the table or should I say "free to explore his options" there is a disconnect there.

Maybe theyve decided they just have to rebuild totally.

Brad Scott had driven the NMFC into a ditch.

Shaw and Co have realised they cant dig it out, and are going to take what parts they can salvage and leave the wreck where it lay and go find a new chassis to build on.

They do have some handy kids to start going forward with though Simpkin, Thomas, Bonar, Zurhaar, Larkey, McKay, Davies-Uniacke.

Corr is a handy get for them as Tarrant is nearly done, Aiden isnt a #1 KPD, they'll be hoping young McKay can take that mantle.

They'd be paying him a fair bit as he's an unrestricted free agent (in top 10 highest paid players at GWS).

I think that's what's happened. Having prided themselves on never bottoming out, they fell to the bottom in 2017 (would've spooned if they didn't win the last game) and didn't stay there long enough. They got Simpkin and Davies-Uniacke and will likely back their recruiters to do more of the same.

Bit early to say yet, but shades of Richmond 2009 (e.g. Polec = McMahon). Definitely a long-term plan.

FWIW, I don’t care, but gee, if they *smile* the rebuild up they are dead. No supporter base, no one cares about them at all. A faltering rebuild come 2022/23 and I can’t see how they can survive. High stakes.

Not free to explore his options. I have it from a good source that he has been told he will not be at North next year regardless. GC considered a possible destination at this stage.

Something pretty ordinary must have happened. The circumstances when he was dropped and his form this year.
Must be more to this.

Didn't Brad Scott say to the Norf board that the club needed a serious rebuild and the club go yeah nah see you later?

Listen carefully .... did you just hear that noise from outside?
It may have sounded like it but actually it’s not a gust of wind at all.
It‘s just an enormous sigh of relief from Dusty

List that North have is in worse shape than when Dimma took us on. And have no fan base to build around. Grim. Bottom three again, next year with Essendon and Hawthorn.

They really need a Marquee player or two to go there to give them something to go forward with.

The problem is where they are at they will struggle to get true Marquee types.

They play at the wrong ground for a start, and as a smaller club they don't have the support and facilities to attract key elite players.
