Went to see 'A Streetcat Named Bob' with the kids yesterday, having read the book over the festive season. Strays from the book a bit, but enjoyable and a bit uplifting.

I saw the videos on You Tube before a film was even thought of. Smart cat that Bob. ;D

Swiss Army Man is one of the more original films I've seen in a while. Paul Dano as a castaway and Daniel Radcliffe as the corpse that washes ashore and becomes his best friend. Beguiling, amusing and touching. Go with it.

Sounds like Weekend at Bernies meets Castaway.

Oscars on Sunday. My fictional ballot:

1. La La Land
2. Hidden Figures
3. Lion
4. Hacksaw Ridge
5. Moonlight
6. Manchester by the Sea
7. Hell or High Water
8. Arrival
9, Fences

Director: Chazelle, La La Land

Actor: Viggo Mortenson - Captain Fantastic
Actress: Isabelle Huppert - Elle (But I would have done a write-in for Taraji P. Henson)
Supp Actor: Michael Shannon - Nocturnal Animals (Sunny Parwar for Lion as a write-in)
Supp Actress: Viola Davis - Fences (as a make-up Oscar for Doubt)

Original screenplay: The Lobster
Adapted screenplay: Hidden Figures

Foreign: The Salesman
Animated: haven't seen any of them
Documentary: OJ (though total category fraud and it should be ineligible)

Editing: Hacksaw Ridge
Cinematography: Lion
Production design: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Costume: Jackie
Make-up and Hair: Suicide Squad
Song: they all sucked
Score: La La Land
Sound mixing: La La Land
Sound editing: Hacksaw Ridge
Visual effects: Kubo and the Two Strings

Animated short: haven't seen them.
Doco short: Watani: My Homeland ties with The White Helmets
Live short: Mindenki (which unlike the other nominees was OK)

Pretty average year for movies. Dunkirk to win at least six Oscars next year.

What happened?
Warren Beattie read out (because he says he was given the wrong envelope) La La Land as the winner of best movie. All the La la land guys get up on stage giving their speech when an official runs on checking the envelopes. Then they say Moonlight was the real winner. It was funny but very amateurish.

Beattie didn't read it out, he showed the card to Faye Dunaway, and she said La La Land. They had the Best Actress envelope, and above La La Land was Emma Stone's name. Beattie saw it, which is why he hesitated and showed it to Dunaway, but I can only assume she only saw the name of the movie.

Totally threw Faye under a bus. He's experienced enough to know a mistake had been made. All he had to do was show one of the ushers.

Still, pretty funny. Loved how the La La producer snatched the card off Beatty.

Yeah, in hindsight, he should have alerted someone. He knew it didn't make sense and he said as such. But I guess he's getting on in age now.....

It does not matter how professional or experienced one is, those extremely high pressure situations - with 100s of millions of people watching - can catch one out. 20 minutes after the *smile* up, I am sure Beatty would have thought it would have been a good idea to stop, turn to the usher and asked them to re-confirm what he was reading.

I cannot comprehend the equivalent stress in my job.
