I wouldn't say the hidden messages were well hidden. The rainbow coloured lighting throughout the film is quite obvious as is the star of Ishtar and most other parts. This thought of Dr Bill as dollar bill and Alice as Alice in Wonderland sounds a bit childish.

It's just like any crazy, fantasised, hallucinated dream we all have which has no direction and no real meaning. All filmed in Kubrick's last hours of life, it was like one of those unfinished paintings that gain value in the future.

Very keen on seeing La La Land, Chazelle's new flick. Looks like it will be the dominant Oscar contender.

Well, La La Land was worth the wait. Easily, best movie of the year (having not yet seen Manchester by the Sea or Silence). Will stroll its way to at least six Oscars.

Caught up on a couple:

Captain Fantastic, starring Viggo Mortensen as a father who raises his kids off the grid, is excellent.

Love and Mercy, the biopic of Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) is also very good. Paul Dano (as Wilson) and Paul Giamatti as his controlling shrink both put in strong performances.

Want to catch Captain Fantastic, big Viggo Mortenesen fan.
Saw Passengers on Monday, think 'Castaway' in space a bit, but enjoyable.

Saw La La land, a funny old film. Starts off as a musical, flattens out then becomes a drama. Worthwhile but very different.

Saw 'Edge of Seventeen' with the kids last night. Enjoyable coming of age flick.
Hailee Steinfeld good value, been a fan since 'True Grit'.
Kids like her singing.

Blubbered through a Lion advance screening last night. Remarkable story - and the actor who played the hero at 5 just about stole the show.

Amazing testimonial for Google Earth too.

'Old Boy' a 2003 south koren flick. If you're patient total wig out awaits. Amazing. 2 thumbs up!

Yeah, that's a classic. Part of Park Chan-Wook's Vengeance Trilogy - check out Sympathy for Mr Vengeance and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance too.

Hell or High Water - Jeff Bridges in great form and Chris Pine showing his acting chops. You've seen this type of film before, but it's very well done.

Florence Foster Jenkins is fabulous. Meryl shines and it might be Hugh Grant's best performance.

Agree on Edge of Seventeen and the Vengeance Trilogy. Thought La La Land was overrated.

Yeah, it's been done before but it was fine - Ben Foster was good too as the slightly unhinged brother. The only thing I didn't like was that it was a bit too didactic at times - like when the cops encounter those cowboys on the road, some of the political points were a bit heavy-handed for my liking. Bridges as grumpy old sheriff in the style of No Country for Old Men was great though.

Currently watching Patriot Games again with Sam Newman Harrison Ford... ;D

Now this is terrorism.

Hidden Figures, despite being fairly formulaic and taking a bit of licence on the story, is a delightful film. Octavia and Taraji slay it, as usual.

Went to see 'A Streetcat Named Bob' with the kids yesterday, having read the book over the festive season. Strays from the book a bit, but enjoyable and a bit uplifting.
