Retire / Trade / Delist

What kind of trade gets Tarranto and Hopper across the line? Frankly, I can’t see how the Tigers get both done. Thoughts?
It's called draft picks and players swaps.
That's how it works
We offer picks 12 19 30 and next year's 1st and Soldo
We get to genuine midfielders in there prime.

We will need another club to help us to facilitate bringing Taranto & Hopper.
Don't need shiit from another
Club
Unless GWS doesn't want Soldo ( which I heard they are very interested in,)
We trade Soldo and use that pick to polish off the other 4 picks on offer for these 2
Deal down
Just get ready for the sooking to begin

No way we give up 2 1sts for Taranto and a top 10 for Hopper. What precedent is that backed up by? Nothing.
Dylan Shiel for one, pick 9 and future first, but I'm sure there's more. Edit, Cerra is another.

Given that there is some cap incentive for GWS to do the trade, and if they both want to come to us, and we can make the deal smooth, we might get a bit of a 2 for 1 discount. But putting that aside, IMO TT is worth a top 5 pick or 2 later first round picks, easy the latter, and Hopper say pick 6 to 12 or a double pick equivalent.

The 2 firsts for TT part is reasonable and doable right now. The top 10 for Hopper is a reasonable opening bid for GWS, we'd counter, but it wouldn't be far away. If say pick 10-15 would do it, we'd have to trade a player, to GWS or elsewhere, to get it done. Or, if we can swing a 2 for 1 discount, 12, 19 or future first, and 30 or future second, and perhaps a steak knives player.

That smacks of treating players like currency - and we don’t do that. Unless we hold the view that he won’t be a regular in the firsts in the years ahead. And I see no reason why this would be the case - unlike the situation like, say, that with Ellis. Are we that desperate that we’d trade one of our best mids for another mid?

It's already begun especially from Carltony ferals.

We would need to find a player of ours who would like to live in Sydney.

Players are currency. Free agency has changed the ballgame. Club's need to be smart.
You've got to give up something to get something. Castagna won't get it done.
I love KMac but if you're ever going to trade him now is the time.

Herald sun footy podcast. Sam Landsberger did say Hopper and Taranto will come to Richmond and Geelong has accepted they have missed out on Hopper.
Anyone that enters punt Rd never wants to go any where else.
I was told about 2 months ago it's all bullshiit that he is keen to go to Geelong.
Because he wants to play every 2nd week on the G.
It's a massive selling point and it does help when there are 70000 Richmond supporters in the crowd.
He wouldve liked the small Geelong crowd on Saturday night. You barely hear them

Again it comes down to value. 2 firsts is very subjective. Is that 2 pick 1's or 2 pick 18's.

I'd think Taranto is worth around Pick 8-10 (which could be 2 1sts in the 15-18 range). We have 12 so a bit of steak knives to fill the gap. I've said from the moment we seemed to be getting Taranto that it would be likely 12 and our future 2nd.

Hopper is worth a bit less, probably right in the range you've selected 10-15 but I reckon towards to 15 range. We don't have that pick. We have next years 1st which could be anywhere from 8 to 18. There is risk to both parties of using it, but seems feasible to use it IMO.

Its why my belief its 12, future 1st and 19. Though I'd be stoked if one of those latter 2 weren't used and 30 was used (or a steak knives player). I'd hope to get some later picks back from the Giants (who won't use them) and then use Brisbane to trade back up the order somewhat.

The Giants currently have 3, 21, 39, 57, 59 and 75.

Add to that 12 and 19, and whatever Collingwood and Geelong trade for Hill / Bruhn and they could have a heap of picks. If I'm the Giants, I'd want to get back into the top 10 (ideal for them would be Cadman and Sheezel IMO). Though they might get future picks from both Geelong and Collingwood for those 2.

Hill a future 2nd for the Pies maybe?
Bruhn, Pick 36 and a future 2nd from Geelong?

On the first point, definitely. To say '2 firsts' in isolation with no context is a pointless misnomer. As I've said elsewhere, statistically, there is a signifcant gap between top 5 and 6 to 10 both in terms of likelihood of a pick being succcessfull and the quality of the player, and light years between top 5 and 11 to 18.

On your examples, there are complicating factors with Hill, and Bruhn is not TT by any stretch. And you have conveniently ignored my Shiel and Cerra examples

I dont know how much this helps us but the GWS -Cats trading relationship is brittle. I hope this works in our favour.

Im good with 12, 19 (the CCJ pick) and 30 for 2 top 5 ready to go midfielders. We can further develop Judson Clarke, Banks and Tom Brown and hope Sonsie, MRJ, Gibcus as well as Miller and Ross stay on the up trajectory. There is enough to work with in this group that allows us to "skip" the 2022 draft (top 30) if we can land Torranto and Hopper. Its also a nice gap 24-25yos to our 19-21 yo as the list sets itself up for another tilt.

We want to win the premiership, Olds. Why would we trade half of the best wing combo in the comp, when wongers are so important on the G?

Plus, forcing out loved players to bring in outsiders is a short cut to Riftsville.

Fraught with danger that trade. Kapsie is a “heart and soul” member of the team. Besides he’s been playing great footy for us and has zero injury history.

I used Cerra in my initial post. Not sure why I need to address that again.

I think its well known that Essendon massively overpaid on Shiel so not sure why we would use that one.

Neale was traded for 6 and 19 (some 50's junk pick too), with 30 coming back and is a better player than both Taranto and Hopper.

He actually did have a calf issue this year. Very taxing role physically as we have seen with Lambert but I hear you.

Agreed. Kmac stays. I'd trade Short out before even thinking about Kmac.
