Against Carlton I’d line up with
Broad Grimes Vlastuin
Baker Balta (new glasses), Rioli D,
McIntosh Taranto Pickett
Rioli M Jr, Cumberland Prestia
Hopper Lynch Riewoldt
Nankervis Martin Bolton
Clarke Cotchin Miller Short
and Sonsie (sub).
Em Graham Ralphsmith Soldo and Tarrant.

Expect instead that Graham, Soldo and Tarrant
will be selected in front of Clarke,
Miller and Sonsie.

Still trying to work out how Broady gets shafted in some of these teams. Without him in the last couple of seasons, we'd been even more stuffed than we were!

Hopper and Prestia to spend more time on the ball but I would start Martin (Taranto) and Bolton.
How would you plan to counter a starting trio like that!
Fair group :) I think our midfield rotations are going to be very exciting watching.

Also don't agree about Tarrant being an emergency. Still think he's in the starting 18 against Carlton's big boys.

Pretty sure team selection will be based on best match ups for the oppo, structural flexibility, injury and management of aging champs (like Cotch)

I'm leaning toward this team:

B: Grimes, Tarrant, Broad
HB: Vlastuin, Balta, Rioli
C: McIntosh, Cotchin, Pickett
HF: Dusty, Riewoldt, Taranto
F: Baker, Lynch, Bolton
R: Nankervis, Prestia, Hopper
Int: Miller, Ralphsmith, Graham, Short

emg/ Soldo, Ross, Sonsie, MRJ, Cumberland

I get that most of the guys in the emergencies are stiff, but I think this side gives us our best shot. I'm not worried as much about the forward pressure because Cumberland doesn't offer heaps, so it's really just MRJ. But there are question marks on the other parts of MRJ's game and apparently new boy Smith gave him a bath in the scratch match.

- Our best back 6, a strong defence plus Rioli promoted to starting 18 back flanker.
- Same wingers as before, with Ralphsmith in the side as another runner and also the 7th defender (is apparently looking great this preseason).
- Deep centre square midfield group of Cotchin, Prestia, Hopper, Taranto, Graham, Short, Dusty, Bolton, Baker
- Miller favoured as the backup ruckman given his extra mobility compared to Soldo.

I think Jacks mobility will be an increasing issue for us. Can’t see him any where else but at high forward.

Me likey!

They all won't fit into best 23 and a few good players that will be stiff at times, but that's a nice problem to have to manage

Sounds good to me Quickdraw, particularly your point about Tarrant.

Broady’s become so important to us. A lot of people don’t get it. Especially oppo supporters. They need to look at some of the games last year where he was a human wall, and see how much his absence in 2021 affected the team.

I am a bit the same TBH

He will certainly be getting more attention in 2023

Hope he proves us wrong though
How are teams going to give Cumberland more attention ?

When you have players like Bolton , Martin and Tarrant running through Which 4th / 5th defender is capable of being the man to stop him ?

He will always get the weakest small/Mid defender after Martin & Bolton

Jack is a very smart player even if he doent kick the goals he creates them for his team mates
but in saying that if he can kick 35+ goals in 2023 then im giving him another year in 2024
