Height & weight mean shiit.
If they can't play.
How many players over the years have we drafted & waited & waited but they never showed anything.
The best "Tall' I've seen in football is Brad Ottens.
A1 Ruckman and tip class foward.
Is Sampson capable of running up and down the ground?
Recent current era too pull on a Tiger jumper.
Richo>>>>Lynch>>>Jack>>>>Take your pick

Who cares. That’s above average for ruckmen last year according to the AFL ….and I trust the AFL.

But if you don’t like the numbers and the AFL’s classification, then I can only assume you don’t trust the AFL ….and think that this is all some sort of irrational conspiracy or something by the AFL ? Or that the AFL have got it patently wrong ? Bizarre.

PRE is not the place for people like you that dont trust the AFL and have little or no rational support to uphold that position. They have no reason to get this wrong.
If .5 marks inside per game is "above average" for a ruck, it really shows that rucks are not pushing forward in big numbers, or being successful as a 3rd marking forward option when they are resting forward.

To put that into perspective, Max Gawn everybody’s ruck love child, All Australian and currently deemed big forward threat, only averaged 1 inside 50 mark per game last year. 1 !

Further, the most goals he’s ever kicked in a season is 16 and his average per year over his career is just 8. Some might consider that ok, but if that’s the leading ruck threat up forward, then it’s hardly that threatening.

So yes, the effectiveness of rucks drifting forward, resting forward, probably deserves attention.

There was a good Champion Data-ESPN article last year assessing the full stop (not just in the forward line) effectiveness of rucks. Safe to say it’s debatable.

where are the 200cm+ defenders that can counter the 205cm+ forwards?
Theyre usually around 195-198cm trying to stop the 205cm forward by bumping them out of the contest = free to forward
Hand on shoulder = free to forward Chopping of arms = free to forward
No team has the tall defenders to counter the tall forwards and they’ll receive frees and kick many goals from them
Thats where the game is going
Harris Andrews and Darcy Moore are both over 200cm

There’s only 1of them intheir sides
How does 1 player counter Melb- Brown 200cm Gawn 209cm/ Grundy 202cm
Dogs- Lobb 207cm Darcy 208cm Naughton 197cm Ugle-Hagan 197cm
Expect lots of easy frees to these forwards from the 4 umps

Yeah its a bit of a yowie really. Who was the last player who was genuinely, consistently good at both? Early career Otto? Mid-career Paul Salmon? Clokey popped into my head as well but was there ever a time when he was consistently effective at both? I'm not sure.

Tyrone was very light on his feet. And very agile. Could turn on a twenty cent piece. His dad John, who was our boxing coach, taught him well about footwork.
But Tyrone was too thoughtful, very intelligent and a different type of cat.
Not the alpha male you need to be to throw your weight around and hurt others.
Now his dad John, we’ll that’s another story.
Yeh, Tyronne could move well. Twinkle toes. And no man moved as well after he klicked a goal and went for the high fives. God he could collect them quickly.

And as you suggest, too smart for violence. He outsourced it.

Dogs still have option of playing Darcy in the backline like last year. Embarrassment of riches

Agree. Highlights serious flaws with Academy and father-son systems. No club that plays finals should be getting top 5 quality talent for free. Dogs did it did it twice, in consecutive years.

So back on Ryan his ball drop and kicking looked horrible on the weekend.

Any more regular VFL watchers know if this is a thing or did he just have a bad day? Even commentators said it’s a long way from hand to foot. Inaccurate forwards who mark well do your head in.

The very last one though was what we wanted lynch to do last year.
