Appears Lethal hates SHocking nearly as much as we do!
(Btw... Hocking dropped Matthews after the Bruns punch!)
“I blame Steve Hocking, and I blame Brad Scott – whoever else was making those decisions – I mean it’s markedly changed the rights (of the player with the ball),” Matthews continued.

Your eyes don't deceive. Had a quick look at the stats of games in 2019 (last season not skewed by Covid) compared with games since the introduction of the stand rule (2021-2024). There is a lot less contested footy.just a game that resembles circle work

Contested possessions are down 5.6% per game
Contested marks -5.1%
Tackles -5.8%
Clearances -4.1%
Hitouts -6.4%.
did you swallow a bucket of sh!t ?…. wasn’t it supposed to increase the amount of goals kicked…
As our indigenous brothers and sisters say,sHocking is still a *smile* wit
Wow. Those stats are significant. The evolution to non contact is on.Your eyes don't deceive. Had a quick look at the stats of games in 2019 (last season not skewed by Covid) compared with games since the introduction of the stand rule (2021-2024). There is a lot less contested footy.

Hurry up ya slow prick. We’re waiting on thatI think it is a bit more nuanced than the above suggests.
Contested possessions down from 39.5% of all possessions in 2019 to 38.3% in 2023, anyway here it is back to 1999:

Contested marks are down from 12.5% in 2019 to 11.6% in 2023:

Tackles are down from 125.1 per game in 2019 to 122.4 per game in 2023:

Clearances I don't have the stats but a quick look at AFL Tables (here: https://afltables.com/afl/stats/2019s.html and https://afltables.com/afl/stats/2023s.html ) indicates that clearances increased from 15,753 in 2019 (207 games) to 16,051 in 2023 (216 games) so that would be 76.1 clearances per game in 2019 and 74.3 per game in 2023.
Hit Outs are down from 77.1 per game in 2019 to 76.1 per game in 2023:

Still working on average scores but I'll throw that in one day soon.
Hurry that up as wellI think the stats tell us something but not everything. The game is fast at the moment and scoring does seem to be slightly up (the AFL clearly want more goals as that means more ad breaks in the telecast), not sure if accuracy is up so will be interesting to see the number of goals per game.
Of course they haven’t made any difference. He’s a dumb cheating *smile* witI can't see that SHocking's rule changes have made any improvements. The game evolves, despite the fiddling by the morons at the AFL, and the stand rule remains an abominationI reckon the way we played from 17-20 changed things a bit but the evolution beyond that point was to add some skill and more accurate short passing to get through defences to the play. The slightly more passing seems to my eyes to be an evolution, it combines with the chaos and attack from half back which we emphasised more in the dynasty
Good work. The game will always evolve and rule changes should be uncommon and only for very good reasons, not just on a whim as the morons in the AFL are wont to do.

Note: 2020 is excluded as I just don't think it is comparable. Shorter quarters skew everything.
Hurry up ya slow prick. We’re waiting on that
Hurry that up as well

Good work.
Now hurry up with the other stuff

Except for the GF...then the whistle is swallowed for some strange reason!Wow. Those stats are significant. The evolution to non contact is on.
Well done compiling those stats. It just goes to prove that *smile* wit hocking’s rule changes have contributed zero when it comes to increased scoring.Ok, here's some more!
Average score has not really increased. If the rule changes were meant to be a revolution leading to more scores, this is looking like the Russian Revolution . . . of 1905!

Average score in 2023 was 83.4, which is around the mark for the years 2018 to 2022, In 2017 the average was 89.1 and prior to that was around the high 80s. No prize there for the morons looking for more scoring.
Goals per game a similar story.
View attachment 22377
As you can see, a drop after 2017 and pretty flat thereafter (note, this graph does include 2020, unlike most of the others).
A couple of other things I have looked at - we'll start with inside 50 efficiency, so here is what that looks like, scoring shots per inside 50 entry:

Again drops after 2017 and does not recover.
It occurred to me that the game is always evolving in terms of possessions and scores, so I thought I'd look at Possessions per point scored, a simple measure but indicative - how many possessions does it take to score a point:

So we are seeing more possessions needed for each score, which reflects the more defensive game these days. The rule changes have done nothing to help this, in fact, it is worse than ever if you take the AFL line that they want more scoring. If they want more scoring then their rule changes should have, and even look like they may have been aiming for, more efficiency in terms of more scores for a similar or lower number of possessions. Fail again.
