For his 2nd preseason , How was Dusty in his 4th preseason ?
I know what Dusty was doing in his first season.....................he was dominating, got 6 Brownlow Medal votes and was robbed of the rising star because of some trumped up charge. He continued to dominate in his 2nd season with 12 Brownlow votes and has dominated every year since. if only Syd could have been half as good.
Syd's got the ability, but not the attitude.

Sydney is into his 3rd.
His 2nd was in jail. Does he get a leave pass for that?
And without a pre season last year, he gets back to full match fitness and plays some bloody good football for us in the ones.
But some still peddling he’s lazy.
I find that impressive.
I’m probably just the glass half full type though

Not sure Stacky's fitness is a concern. This is what pre-season is for, it's the time to get fit. No need to roll up to the start of pre-season in match condition - we'll worry about it in March if he is not fit.
Great post jb. Players need to maintain a base fitness level that will get them through these early preseason sessions, then build from there. No point starting preseason “cherry ripe” fitness wise. It’s all about peaking at the right times of the season proper and I have a lot of confidence in our fitness staff.
It was mentioned the first session went for longer than 2 hours, I’m sure many players paced themselves to make sure they got through the session.
Most importantly, Syd is back, he has started the hard work, so let’s hope he sticks at it.
It is a long preseason.

And what did he do for 12 weeks after he arrived back in melbourne ?
He was effectively handled with kid gloves and did a pre season whilst the rest of the team were well advanced

But lets not keep making excuses for him , He either puts his head down bum up and becomes a professional AFL player or he can *smile* off and become a tik tok super star.

Even mentioning Dusty in the same thread as Stack is silly and im not sure how this even came into the conversation but Dusty is contending for the greatest player ever to play the game and Sydney Stack is stuck on a rookie contract on the rookie list and 50/50 to even be on a AFL list in 2023

Handled with kid gloves?
You serious?
Have you ever done an AFL preseason?
I spent 10 days on a summer training camp with them once. They get flogged.
Sydney spent 6 weeks in jail. He then came back and got AFL match fit.
And yet you refuse to afford him any encouragement but paint him as a lazy player.
What he is, is immature and unprofessional. Both fixable
That’s about it.

The next Dusty?

Dustin Martin cops the Hardwick blast for being unfit in the off-season - 5/2/2011

First or second day back for pre-season training, coach Damien Hardwick gave him a rocket in front of the entire playing list after he presented himself "unfit" for a time-trial around the Botanic Gardens Tan track.

It was not a case of partying too hard for Martin, more not eating the right foods and not having the training and matches five times a week to burn off the excess.

https://www.perthnow.com.au/news/ns...ff-season-ng-7d070bfaa40bad8159ce866bf312285c And just as interesting to me was learning that things are tough in Australia with normal casino reviewers. I found a lot, but everything was suspicious. Once I came across https://betpokies.com, and after that my search ended, because I found a very good site where you can read great casino reviews.

Further down in this article, it also says that Dusty has taken care of himself, lost the extra pounds and spent the preseason injury-free! Isn't he great?
It seems like he just got scolded a little bit and he started to get better right away :)

I think swapping it out for a drink or for a chip "salad" sounds good! :D
Don’t listen to what Rudeford has to say he’s just shattered he can’t have KFC after the doc told him he had to get his weight down under 130 kegs because of his wonky knees

Syd will never ever be another Dusty. For all the to-ing and fro-ing of the discussion. Martin is a very professional footballer and has been for a long time. Stackeyis a talented young man without the same approach. He will never turn into Martin. he does, however, need to switch on and start to make the most of his talent or he will be left to rue what might have been. Gee, I hope to see him involved with winning flags in the future with the Tiges and putting his hand up for a Norm Smith or two. Will be most satisfied if that happens. It won’t happen unless he seriously gets the message that being young and highly paid as a sportsman does not a whole lifetime make.
Fingers crossed.

Think I'll worry about how fit Stacky is when practice matches start. He was always going to be a bit different n difficult to manage n get the best out of.
Smart clubs know that sometimes ya gotta fudge the boundaries a little bit to have every chance of getting the best possible outcome from different players.
Can't just smash all the youngsters with a big stick n make them conform to exactly the same model, some need a bit of nudging n poking along to get the best out of them.

With Sydney, I think it is a matter of balancing smashing him on the track/gym and allowing him to enjoy his footy and be happy. He is clearly a person who loves the competitive side of footy but not so much the pure fitness work. So based on that would get in just enough work to satisfy the fitness staff but let him loose when the balls come out. If he is happy he will dominate

I have got to say I am disappointed with the info on here regarding where Stack is at.

My great source (who maybe isn’t so great ☹️) told me about a month ago that both Stack and Bolton were working really hard in anticipation of next season.

Hope Bolton is cause Stack doesn’t sound like he is. At least not on the right things.

This is why I appreciate the feedback from those who go to training. You got to see it to believe it.

So give him preferential treatment over all the other boys because he cant be stuffed training and keeping himself in good physical shape like the other 43 players on the list ? Why

He is not Cotchin,Dusty,Jack, Rance or even Baker - Why should he be pampered and looked after, Which other players will require the same treatment with this type of example being set

He played 7 games in 2021 after losing 2 months in jail
He was released on Jan 9 2021 and arrived back in March 26 but in no shape to play

Sometimes you might just need to accept AFL level professionalism is not for everybody and just accept it for what it is ,

Richmonds season ended 21st August and the players returned last week thats 3 months off, Who gets 3 months off work these days ? Is it asking too much just to keep a reasonable level of fitness to resume preseason training whilst getting paid $120k a year for 9 months work ?
