It doesn't matter how they spin it the US society is seriously sick

Even if you accept their comeback of " guns don't shoot people, other people do", then they have a much higher proportion wanting to kill each other, or themselves.

The question is why? This is the question so many Americans don't seem to want to answer.

" At least they have their freedom", as if nowhere else does

Yeah that one, and the other one "the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun". Righttttttttttttttttttttt

So the US want to "stop the bad guys with the guns" so they arm the good guys to take out the bad guys.
Then the good guys get so concerned and trigger happy that there are too many "bad guys with guns" that they then accidentally kill some of the "good guys" with or without guns.
So the logical way to deal with that (the American way) is go, "well we'll just arm more good guys with guns" so they develop militias who apparently want to ensure that the "good guys with guns" are doing the right thing and only killing the "bad guys with guns" and not the "good guys with or without guns".
It gets to a point that no-one really knows whats happening, so the "good guys with guns" are now killing both "good guys with guns" and "bad guys with guns" and the "bad guys with guns" are also killing "good guys with guns" as well as "bad guys with guns" and both are killing goods guys and bad guys without guns.

The Wild West is well and truly back (or maybe it didn't really go anywhere).

Sounds like the only way to deal with stopping those "bad guys with guns"!!!!!

ORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR you can do what the rest of the world does, and say, whats the best way to stop bad guys with guns. How about...................................................we don't let them get *smile* guns in the first *smile* place!!!

I’m not sure how to put YouTube clips here but this one recently with Jon Stewart is brilliant. It goes for 8 1/2 minutes but its worth watching to the end. I love how he keeps throwing back the interviewee’s arguments back at him. It does my head in how some Americans can’t fathom the stupidity of their gun laws
I hope the link works

The other thing about the supposed right to bear arms in the USA under the second amendment is that those who favour a free for all in terms of gun ownership generally selectively quote the second amendment.

The full text, as accepted by the Supreme Court, reads as follows:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

There is a right to bear arms, but it is a right of "the people" which can be interpreted in a number of ways. For example, the people may refer to the people as a whole and you could interpret this as meaning the people as a whole have the right to bear arms and say that this is satisfied by the ability of the people's law enforcement and military having arms, but not individuals.

The above interpretation may be stretching it a bit but it is one interpretation, well, that is, if the Supreme Court wasn't stacked with RWNJs.

But the real clincher here is that even if you take "the people" to include individuals, there is no getting away from the specific context that the right to bear arms is couched in. "A well regulated militia". This clearly and specifically gives the US states and Federal government the power to regulate firearms. They are likely to have issues with outright bans, but regulation is clearly allowed. So, the idea that states and the federal government in the USA cannot regulate gun ownership goes against what the second amendment states.

Schools / Pre-Schools in the US are now asking parents to get DNA samples of the students so that if a kid gets shot in a the head with an assult rifle, it will be easier to identify them.

It's just a seriously *smile* up country at the moment

I can't remember if it was posted here, but there was a video with someone who worked with the kids from Sandy Hook. That was a bunch of 5 and 6 year old kids that watched a bunch of their school mates murdered (I think 26 died that day). They were saying that to help with the surviving kids trauma that they gave the kids a whistle to blow on every time they were scared. Apparantly the whistles were blown almost constantly.

We all know the victims who die, but the silent victims in all of this are the poor kids that also have to watch it happen and then live with the consequences. The fear of it occurring again, the guilt that it wasn't you but someone else that died. It will create a massive mental health issue in the US IMO. This is still developing at the moment, as kids that were involved in these shootings become adults.

A Republican congressman has quoted stats that states that allow teachers to carry guns have less school shootings than those that don’t.
The solution to stop school shootings is to arm the teachers

No idea what a banshee has to do with it. Whose death is being foretold?
Perhaps the death of nut job right wing conservatism in this country? The voters certainly seem to think so
The only nut jobs around are the Greens ,and your LABOR mob need them .
The Labor/Green rise is only short term ,Comrade Andrews is starting to crash

Andrew's crashing? The 3rd term premier who was voted back in by another record margin 4 months ago? Hardly.

Like it or lump it, Andrew's is a popular politician because he largely does what he says he's going to do an the public respect him for it.

It aint necessarily a labor/green rise. But it's a big shift away from the right.

Sky News writes 20 articles in 2 days about Andrews going to China, and he’s crashing? :mhihi

I don’t think it’s that simplistic. The core issue is that Millennials don’t vote Liberal and will overtake Boomers in terms of population by 2025. But there are layers to this.

I think the vocal presence of the cookers doesn’t help the right.
Pentecostals overtaking the Liberal Party doesn’t help the right.
Copying USA Republican-esque divisive politics doesn’t help the right.
Aligning themselves with the Murdoch Media is backfiring on the right.
Hard right micro parties claiming things such as Climate Change is a hoax or fighting Trans rights doesn’t help the right.
Andrews, Palaszcuk and McGowan being highly popular Premiers in their respective states doesn’t help the right.

That’s not to say they can’t turn things around if they made the choice to modernise. And to some extent Perrottet was trying to do this. Maybe Pesutto is too. But not Dutton. And definitely not Murdoch.

Everything you listed is associated with the right. People are rejecting those positions. Hence a shift away from the right.

Many people start left but shift right as they age

Every thing comes at a cost ,and for Andrews it's a cost he doesn;t have the money for.
He is again selling out to China ,for those who don't know China already have 40 billion invested in Victoria .
He wants to do deals with a country who have one of the worst current human violation records ,a country that has *smile* in Australia's face ,a country that want to come into the pacific among other places .
A Victorian journalist who has been in prison in China for 2 years of suspicion of spying ,her family contacted the Andrews government once they heard he was going to China ,to try and help get her released ,they contacted the family and said they would be in touch, but never got back to them.
Penny Wong has at least tried to help in the past.

Albo is all about diversity ,or so he say's ,and yet we still pander to a country that has a terrible record towards homosexual's .
Quite a bit of hypocrisy going on ,but Andrews government is falling .

Bengla boy still frothing at the mouth over Comrade Dan I see. Starting to feel sorry for him. He's swallowed the Petra Credlin narrative hook line and sinker and that's that it's proven to be completely wrong, he and his fellow RWNJ are flailing about in desperation and utter confusion because all evidence is pointing to what they know to be true, isn't.

It’s a fair debate is Andrews like Essendon beating Hawthorn?

That would be my position. They both suck and both have reputation issues. One just really sucks a lot more.
