Jeez Labor is uninspiring at the moment.

Daniel Andrews is a walking corpse.

Meh, they'll get my vote like they always do, but it's been many years since they actually deserved it.

Don't vote for wooden horses. All the best to his ill dad, but this bloke speaks like a broken record and clearly has no substance.

Yeah I desperately want to vote for Andrews but he is soo floppy. Won't be at all surprised to see him miss out.

I don't think it's either respectful or disrespectful. I suspect it's shabbiness and possibly should have said first female Indigenous Australian.

You are probably right Rosy Shabby preparation of the Bio. I would have expected the candidate to at least review and correct it though. I know that is what we expect all our people at work to do.

Yeah. At the Federal level Bill Shorten is uninspiring and failing to stand up for anything much really.... suspect he's playing the "small target" strategy and waiting for Australia to toss Abbott out on his arse.

Such is the tragedy of modern politics.

Looks like Abbott can be relied to keep his word about as much as Palmer can...not.

Tony Abbott faces Liberal revolt over Middle Head aged care home

Prime Minister Tony Abbott is facing open revolt in Liberal Party branches in his own electorate over his support for a deal that will see a privately owned, for-profit aged care home built on public parklands overlooking Sydney Harbour at Middle Head.

Rank and file members of the Mosman and Balmoral branches will protest at the Liberal state conference on Saturday over what they see as a betrayal of long-term promises by Mr Abbott and other senior federal ministers to protect the heritage of the former Defence-owned site known as 10 Terminal.

The naval heritage buildings of 10 Terminal will be extensively rebuilt to create an 89-bed retirement home known as The Cove.

High-end aged care facilities elsewhere on Sydney's lower north shore are charging upfront bonds of up to $2.6 million per unit to join.

The 10 Terminal site is part of former Defence lands around the harbour held for the public by the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust, a federal body answering to Environment Minister Greg Hunt, who also had to approve the decision.

The trust has not revealed how much income it will derive from its deal with Middle Head Health Care, the proposed operators of the Cove, saying it is still negotiating the terms of the 25-year lease.

Analysts say the aged care industry is entering a boom, with the prospect of rich pickings driving a wave of consolidation.

The minutes of the trust's September board meeting reveal it could take a cut of "any premium" generated by the operators of the Cove transferring the lease to another party.

The decision of the trust to hand publicly owned land to an aged care operator has angered locals, including Mr Abbott's sister, Jane Vincent.

The largest Liberal branch in Mr Abbott's Warringah electorate, Mosman, has passed a motion calling on the government to reject the development and instead "work with the community towards a truly adaptive use of the present buildings to preserve them and ensure the buildings, site, and harbour foreshores are accessible and available to the public for generations to come".

The motion was supported by 68 of the 70 attendees.

Branch member and Mosman deputy mayor Roy Bendall said: "Considering that [the development] was being assessed by our own federal colleagues, it was quite a show of strength."

He recalled Mr Abbott's promise in opposition not to let developers take the parklands, and his pledge to stop the "Keating government's proposed sale of former military land around Sydney Harbour".

In a speech in April 2012, Mr Abbott said: "Largely at my instigation, the Howard government committed more than $115 million to the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust to preserve the natural and built heritage of places like North Head and Middle Head."

Mr Bendall said "something has gone astray" at the trust, which is required by law to protect the heritage of buildings and "maximise public access to Trust Land".

In a letter sent to a Mosman constituent on October 24, Mr Abbott said the trust's plan had undergone "extensive environmental assessments and public consultation" and that he supported the development.

Disgraceful. Disappointing. Dishonest. Modern politics continues to plumb new depths.

Considering you think it's (dis)respectful to those men elected before her maybe an email to point out the error would be more beneficial than highlighting it on here.

I wonder why we're sending a warship to intercept the Russian ships? Did Tone have a George Bush nightmare last night?

Surely, Putin just wants to show those dopey G20 protesters what respect means. ;D

Is it just me or is there a certain irony in the G20 summit at a cost of $100m is to come up with ideas to reduce poverty and create jobs? I appreciate on a global scale $100m is a drop in the ocean but it'd certainly go some way to reducing poverty and creating jobs for many people.

Is it too simplistic to think that in 2014 a summit can be done electronically and put the $100m towards directly reducing poverty and creating jobs?

These are just formal parties for the global governments. A meeting to discuss if they should have a meeting. As bad as any corporate conference one goes to. More time and money spent on going out at night and playing golf during the day.

How about sending the deputy Minister of Defense, I think that is right, to greet Putin. Talk about getting off on the two left feet! I wonder, did he send the Minister for the Environment's ex-housemate to greet Obama or Jinping or... Bloody atrocious and detremental to our standing in the world and the G20s chances of reaching positive diplomatic outcomes.
