Talking Politics

If we are truely such a rational lot, how do you explain "Reclaim Australia"?

I said most Australians understand we elect governments, not PMs, so not sure what RA has to do with that. Actually I am sure, RA has nothing to do with that issue. You could believe in a racist ideology and still understand how our system of government is elected.

It was a tangent, sure, but not a wild one (well not to me but I may be tangent-prone in my thinking :-\). You postulate that "most" Australians are rational enough to understand that they vote for the party not the leader. I'd love to agree with you but I see evidence to the contrary all over the place. RA is borne of irrationality and has garnered enough support to host rallies across the country.

OK, I get ya.. People are basically irrational when it comes to politics? I would agree that yes they are, sometimes... Depends on context etc..

On the PM thing, my evidence is that BS is deeply unpopular but Labor would still easily win an election on current polling. To my mind that suffices for my argument.

On Reclaim Australia, numbers are still very small. There are always radicals on both sides of the spectrum. In a way this is healthy. Now they no doubt represent a larger group of people who are less radical but still are anti Islam/nationalist/anti refugee/borderline racist or however you want to describe them.

We are all irrational about some things, depends where you sit. I'm sure the Reclaim Australia rednecks think they are totally rational at we are all deluded sheep. 'Course, they are nuts...

RIP Don Randall.

Still no positives for Abbott........

The free trade deal with China at least seems to have atttracted some kudos.

Have i read correctly that Shorten will adopt the/some of the turn back the boats policy of the Libs. Would surey have to be the end of his career if so?

Yep, you read correctly mate. Shorten has come out to say that 'his' position is that he thinks Labor made mistakes before and should stick with the Lib's 'turn back the boats' policy. He has also said that he will be taking this position to the ALP conference thing coming up this weekend.

Just when I thought he couldn't sink any lower, he went and proved me all wrong...

The ALP really needs to get.... ummmm... errrrrr.... *coughs*.... as leader

Mark Butler, if only because I'm curious as to whether his impish grin and manner would fall victim to the same soul-deadening fear of the other side and the media that rendered Rudd, Gillard and Shorten as automatons.

So this yesterday Labor were saying 50% target for renewable energy in Australia by 2030 or whenever.

GREAT! A point of difference with the libs - and one that actually makes sense.

Today - let's just copy the Libs on asylum seeker boat turn backs.

:-[

I really want to see Penny Wong lead the ALP. But I think she's too smart to want the job.

he did. shameful policy.
he did also suggest they would announce more in the refugee area in the coming days, possibly a large increase in numbers. that would be something at least, and a big change from the current gov which significantly dropped the number of refugees we would accept if my memory serves correct.

Here's something to cheer us up

Flanked by 10 flags and Abbott still can't count to 7, maybe he should be deported for failing the citizenship test. :rofl

What a clown, seriously.

All the flags in the world won't save you Abbott.

I don't like Shorten's policy but that won't save Abbott either. It mightl help soft liberal voters vote Labor and the leftie Labor voters will vote Green worst case.

Two party preferred will still work for Labor
