Training For Redemption in 2022

Ripping report @sezza it is sobering to be obsolete after 1 report;).
Training has always been closed sessions as in no public entry into the ground, (I have been watching on the street through the fence for 4 years), so you must have snuck in when a gate was temporarily open or had SAS training to break through the perimeter
Not surprised you were ejected but hope Livingstone was polite and explaining in doing so.
Glad to see Daniel back disappointed you didn't get a look at Clarke in drills?
It is rare to get the full squad together at the moment maybe a few more Covid absentees?
Tim Livingstone was fine - I took no offence really, especially when it was explained.

There is no way I am standing outside the fence for 2 hours. All yours @caesar and I know everyone appreciates your efforts. It is great for hungry supporters like me just to get some insight during pre-season.

You don't need to stand outside the fence, get a banana lounge and pour a Gin and Tonic (switch to whisky in winter) and you're set!

Whilst you’re busy complaining about having to stand outside the fence for 2 hours, spare a thought for Caesar.
He’s been standing on the street watching through the fence for 4 years

Great report btw.

Cotch was training as hard as anyone and looked like he was moving well during the session - was very encouraging to the other players;
I like the sound of this- he could get the captaincy this year.
I always thought he would be ok if given the chance.

I used to do it standing from Richmond station in the old days, but commercialism has killed that. Too many billboards now.

The Norf Melbourne arden st ground would be the easiest along with the Hawks mulgrave (old VFL ground)

No fences or gates anybody can walk upto the ground and watch

RCD got caught several times in tackles (Aarts caught him at least three times) - RCD has the ability to handball off by keeping his arms up but he seemed to get caught too often. Personal opinion but I think he needs to lift his intensity - he didn't run hard at times though his disposal to leading targets was superb. He really could go either way - become an elite midfielder or drift out of the game - I honestly am not sure which;

Hope that was worth the read - will not be back next week as I could not stand ejection/rejection twice lol

And Tim Livingstone, I don't think I gave away any secrets (that couldn't be seen from outside the fence!)

congratulations Sezza, on your undefeated retirement :clap2

I hate to cherry pick a negative,

but what you describe of RCD, would have been a precise description in his u18 year.

It's true they haven't got it done in finals but equally worth remembering they led the Prelim and Grand Finals at half time in two years. They had one hand on the cup both times until we snatched it away. That's about as close as you can get to achieving something bloody hard to achieve. Goes down as losses in the record but by any measure it is a huge season.

I once had the best looking girl in Ballarat smile at me at 0430 on a Sunday morning,

as she left The Canopy Club with the toughest bloke in Ballarat .

Day one no Barra for me but my mate and guide caught 2 so we still feasted on Barra.
Things start to get serious on Monday when we check into our lodgings near the Daly River for 4 straight days of fishing hopefully better news to come.
Keep up the good reports

We also had major injuries in 2019 and 2020 and look what happened. Injuries isn’t why we didn’t make the 8
In those yrs we got them back & they stayed back, last yr they came back & broke down again. IMO losing Rob Inness was a huge loss for us. He was great at getting them back injury free.

Disagree.
I think injuries were a major reason we didn’t make the 8 in 2021.
However I don’t think they were the reason we didn’t win the flag.

My gym overlooks Waverley Park as does about 80 townhouses and a restaurant. Hawks have zero chance of a closed session.

I'm not Caesar or Sezza but here's some info from today:

Went down to watch the boys train for a bit.

Good news: Dylan, Dion and Tom all back in full training.

Jack G, Tyler and Thomson in rehab. Sprints and agility. Kane just running laps and doing bicep curls. (Abbey will be happy according to some.)

Watched about 45 mins of a 90 min session. Intensity is increasing.
Things I noted:
  • Nank has trimmed down and is running harder
  • Miller is fast
  • MRJ chases hard and tackles hard. I think it was Caddy that he caught, it was a stunning tackle
Apart from warm up and the sprints etc I watched 4 different drills. There's a real focus on getting the 15 to 30 metre kicks right and getting that zig zag style of game working against a "stand" defence.
One of the drills was 7 on 5 (7 attackers and 5 defenders) zig zag the ball to defensive 50 and then try and release forward of the defensive line. Noah got bored and off one step went bang and a 60 meter pass on the chest of Dusty. Totally defeated the purpose of the drill but was fun to watch. Cadds, Shed, Shai and Marlion, in the group closest to me, got it best. Keeping width and then making leads when needed. Marlion really gets it. He was similar in the following handball drill he was similar. He really knows how to do the team/structure things.
Then there was a 6 on 6 or 7 on 7 handball match. Jack R is very competitive. MRJ tackles for real. Liam and Marlion stand outs in getting the spacing right. Liam worked on drawing 2 defenders and then handballing to the spare.
Overall the intensity has gone up. They look keen and eager to start playing some games.
