Training For Redemption in 2022

Sorry about that it has been Thursday like clockwork for the pre-season, unfortunately I don't get a first hand copy of their schedule ;)
Geez! Lift KnifeRack.... LIFT!!!!!!!

:p
Don't waste your breath, JJT. I've been telling him to lift for ages and nothing seems to work. Starting to think his ears are painted on ;)

Seriously, thanks to Caesar and everyone that contributes to the training reports. This is the best line on how our blokes are tracking (the media are useless).

As much as I'm stoked to have family just arrived from interstate, I can't wait to get through Christmas and we start hearing about how the boys are tracking.

Traditionally their last training session of the year is on the Friday before Xmas.
And they usually send them off with a bang.

Doubt it would be next Friday as that is Christmas Eve, may pay for me to wander by tomorrow morning?

If no training tm they could be done for the yr, with them not back till early Jan usually i'd reckon it'll be a full on session if it's on.

Drove past punt road at about 11.30 am and they were training. Couldn’t stop unfortunatel.

Caught up with Ceaser this morning to see the second hour of training. Spectacular day.

Not sure if it is my eyesight, but not easy to see the players at the other end. They finished with a match sim/circle work which was enjoyable to watch.

My under-stated observation:
- Soldo will be the best ruckman in the league by the end of the year. He looks amazing. Clearly spent a year doing bench presses. Legs look well-matched, in fact he looks more agile. He participated in a marking contest drill with young Samson and monstered him. Really wasn't fair. Nank was also doing laps in front of us and looks in prime condition.

Other observations:
- Sydney had a huge vomit in front of us just after I arrived (not sure the cause). Subsequent drill he was struggling further. Then in the match sim he was linking up all over the ground and playing beautifully. I'll give him huge credits to have obviously pushed himself to the limit to the point of vomiting, then to step up during the game time. Final drill was run-throughs from one-end-to-the-other, and he was in the front half each time. He has also bulked up around the chest. Plenty to be positive about. Just needs to stay disciplined off the field.
- Young Brown did very well in the match sim.
- Tarrant is a fine-looking specimen
- Tom Lynch looked in good nick
- Gibcus is skinny as expected, but has a nice frame to build into. Certainly defended well.
- Samson Ryan, after getting bullied by Soldo, had plenty of nice touches in the match sim. I hope we don't have to rely on him next year to ruck, but plenty to be optimistic about his long term.
- Jack Ross leading the sprints. Jack Graham doing run-throughs all session (Ceaser said he hasn't participated yet in main training).

There may be some other observations that I missed that I can comment on later. As I said, given where they were on the ground, hard to take too much away from my morning.

Hopefully this is complimentary to all of the great training reports from Ceaser again this pre-season. Obviously just my uninformed tiger-tragic biased opinions, so no pot-shots please.

Stack obviously copying my pre season training program from last night.
Drink plenty, throw up, struggle for a bit and suddenly second wind. Finish BOG.

Good stuff TF17. Any views on how Teague is going?

Thanks for report @TigerFlag2017 .

A few extra observations:

Shai, Bakes and Shorty not there today.
Tom Brown : Can see him playing early, (smart player can see him making the right decision 95% of the time, knows when to go and when to stay, reads the game so well).
Judson Clarke : Don't see many lefties that are capable of kicking on their non-preferred looks to me like Judson can and won't get corralled, has great lateral movement, (very light but may be hard to catch a bit like Shai), was up towards the front in most of the running so can see why they may have plans beyond just a small forward in time.
Syd : TigerFlag17 already covered but I can confirm there were 3 conditioning drills one at the start, middle and end, (each were repeat sets of different distances with 30 sec breaks in between), Syd finished within the pack and not last in any of these so were very happy to see that.
Sonz : Finally getting some running into his legs so looking forward to his footy skills in the New Year.
Soldo : Beast, please no more arthroscopes, (this big lug is as important as anyone in our climb back up the ladder).
Dusty : Joined the main group in a lot of the non contact drills and of course looked a cut above, (laps and conditioning otherwise).
Junior : Think his endurance has improved out of sight, let's see how it will translate I think he would/will be a better player when he starts sweating the ball rather than the man and just looking for a tackle. Always has a big grin on his his face, a real character. (Still a watch and see for me though).
Hugo: I had him along with RCD to be the 2 players to go bang but he has not quite exploded this pre-season as I expected but thought today was the best he has looked.

Ok let's cut to the chase who is going to or can make us better next year :

Soldo : Will compete with the monsters and clear a path for our mids.
Shai more midfielder time please.
Brown into the back 6 mix  and Stackman forward.
RCD : Make the most of his explosiveness and be damaging forward of center, (I am not expecting him to all of a sudden turn into a 2 way runner).
Tarrant : I put him in as i thought we were going to have a huge hole with DTLD retirement but slots in seamlessly.
Balta : Was treading water a bit before injury and a little caught out by having to be the main man with our defensive injury carnage.
Dow : A wild card, hasn't been able to participate fully because of his shoulder, his running capacity seems to have gone up, he does not stand out in full ground non- contact circuit work as I do not believe his kicking is that great but still see him as being elite in tight so will have to wait for post Christmas training to see how that pans out.
A fit Dusty
Lynch :
I have a sense under forward coach Teague he is in favor of lowering eyes and hitting up marking targets and raising eyes ignoring the obvious and finding a marking target over the back, (maybe a bit less reliant on the chaos ball?). Might play into big Tom's hands?
Find an elite wingman? Don't know who can fill that.
(Less injuries of course).

All in all I haven't been blown away thus far and we haven't had any scratch matches or any intense physical contested work really at this stage. There has been NO center bounce ruck work all pre-season. I am guessing we were basically just after some conditioning and no clash injuries leading up to Christmas.

Good stuff Julius. Do you see any more progression from Rio now that he's found his comfort zone last season?

Thanks caesar.

How's Marlion looking.

How about Syd into the midfield rather than the forward line?

Marlion is looking good, I think all and sundry know what he offers but don't see massive upside or downside so will be a matter where he fits he can certainly cover a few bases but can demand a #1 spot for himself somewhere?

I have said ideally I would like Syd mid but he would need a faultless pre-season be disciplined during the break and come back hungry, from where he is coming from a more realistic expectation would be for him to light it up forward IMO or down back where most others on here prefer.
