Tyler Sonsie

Is he still on the list?
If so why?

Maybe as we can't delist everyone in one go.
Maybe we need some cannon fodder for this year to make sure we get the #1 draft pick
Maybe we need some cannon fodder this year so we can properly develop the new toys over 2025
Definitely need to delist 3 at the end of 2025 as per AFL rules. Maybe Sonsie is in the delist 2025 list
Maybe just maybe it all clicks with him and he becomes a decent player

Happy for Sonz to get one more run at it.

If he doesn't cement a spot or make his mark this season hell be gone at years as will Dow if he doesn't show a big improvement, they are both in the same boat.

They will likely get the first 8 weeks of the season to get ahead ahead of the returning injured players i.e. Jud Clark and Lalor, and Hotton, etc to stake a claim.

Even Jack Ross also really needs to step up.

Smillie and Algar may be early selection surprises to make things more interesting, and the returning Moju and Green if fit and ready will also make it harder for them.

Career defining year ahead for Sonsie and Dow. Dow imo should already be gone.

Yep those options are plausible - including the final one
Happy to allow this coming season to find out for sure which one proves most accurate

Another on my watch list for 2025.

Was the one we all thought would take us forward from the draft class of 21.

Has had a big preseason from all reports.

Needs to take this in the season proper.

Not everyone grasshopper.

Never been on the bandwagon. From draft until now. Not at all.

But you're right, big year for Tyler, lest will be his last in the AFL.

Big year for Sonsie (and others that are in that 4 year plus range). Not sure we've got much in the 22 to 25 year old bracket.

If we were to rate the 2021 draft on potential it would be a massive bust based on the two best prospects suffering LTI and the rest just not looking like it.
I think Brown, Sonsie and Banks all lack intensity and effort when going for the ball or into contests and will struggle to make it if they don’t pull their fingers out.
Gibcus and Clarke are our only hope , but need to get over their serious soft tissue injuries.

Need to pray that the 2024 crop can step up rapidly as the 21 crop I have little faith in .

The biggest question for me is where does he play?

He is still seen by the coaches as that half forward. (I assume this is the case as this is where he has been training all pre-season).

He played his best game all way back to the elimination final in 2022 as a midfielder. Not sure he has a spot there now.

We have 18 players in the 22 - 25 age bracket including Clarke, Brown, Gibcus and Banks who are not 22 by the start of the season but fall into that 4th year bracket. Sonsie has already turned 22.

How do we rate them so far.

For me we have just two who are B grade or better. Balta, and Gibcus who i put there on potential rather then performance due to injuries.

Performed at a decent level nothing special just okay Mansell and Ross. C grade . I dont see these two ever being more than okay players.

The rest 14 PLAYERS Miller, HRS, Rioli, Kossie, Dow Ryan, Trezise, Sonsie, Banks, Bauer, Blight, OHB, Colina and Clarke. Most have shown bits and pieces but Have not consistently played to afl standard yet enter at least year 4.
Is there any at least B graders there? I hope so but the thinking is im hoping like mad enough of them can at least become solid citizens.

The other big problem we have is we have just five players in the 26 - 29 age bracket. Hopper Taranto, Short, Lefau and young. Only the first two are B grade or above imo.

Sonsie atm is a part of a bigger problem He needs to either step up or be delisted.

Ye of little faith! Me also. At this stage I struggle to think any of the five drafted in 2021 will make anything more than a fringe player. Sadly Gibcus has missed out on his earlier development due to injury and the other 4 have not set the world on fire. 2025 will be a season where much will be revealed.

Pretty depressing seeing the number of list cloggers still on our list. The 24 crop with future picks is the only way to go now.
The Hopper and Taranto trades were a massive setback to our starting of a rebuild.

Brown will be a gun - a nerf gun perhaps but still a gun nonetheless.

Now we just to need locate the real Sonsie that disappeared at half time in the '22 EF.

There is a guy called Brown we have. If available every other club would jump at the chance to get hold of him. Done nothing wrong so far and is all class.

The 5 in 30 is looking like a huge mistake.
Was it the right decision to attack the draft when covid effected the kids competition?

Who was taken with the those picks??
If they were any good SEN wouldve been all over it.
Tarranto has been really good. You can't blame him for Ross Young Miller Sonsie Mansel Dow and Samson.

It’s probably too early to judge those picks and you can’t really go on the number of the pick as we could’ve picked differently when our picks were up. Agree TT has been very good , but it’s more the question that list managers couldn’t see that we needed to rebuild rather than than top up. At least we are back on that road again and by getting rid of four senior players that wouldn’t help us long term we now can build a young list.

I still think the COVID notion is a bit of a cop out as every club were faced with this. Some very good players will come out of that draft .
Gibcus was a great selection, but injury has stalled his progress. JVR I rate highly and there are others that are showing signs. I think we went for flashy flanker types after Gibcus a bit like a Menadue type and they often fail.
I'm hoping I'm wrong with the 21 crop and their lack of preparatiobn, physicality and repeated injuries is all because of Meehan and under a new staff in fitness our boys all improve .
