Tyler Sonsie

Do we really lose anything playing this guy on ball in place of Dow and Ross? At least he is a half decent kick of the footy. It would either make or break him, but we need to find out. We play him there for 4-5 games, if he continually stinks it up, then back to the VFL and he probably doesn't get another look in with a lot of the injured crew coming back around then.

I thought he was okay in the first half (indeed if he kept it up I was locking him in for next week) ......... but gee he disappeared 😥

Papers stamped for this bloke. Just does nothing. Too soft in any contest and effort.

Coach killer. Just watch, he’ll go straight back to the magoos.

I don't really see the talent that was spoken about when he was drafted. He looks mediocre? He's not even a good kick.

However, I thought the same thing about Kane Lambert once upon a time, so I'm always open to being surprised

Playing for the free 15m from the oppo goal, FMD.

You could mount a case based on the pure numbers but geez some of his efforts are so conditional. Just a coach killer which is why I reckon he’s never achieved continuity despite obvious talent.
That's just experience at the level. Ask yourself, why was he in that situation in the first place. He shouldn't be trying to take marks on the last line of defence.
Then, someone (maybe Blight) handballed to him, when he was hot. He wasn't going to get that ball out. It set him up.
People are blaming Sonsie, when he shouldn't be in that position.
26 games in, around a quarter as a sub...he's gonna make some mistakes at the level. Easy to sit in the stands and say he should do better, but for a guy with little continuity and probably very little confidence he won't get dropped for sneezing, I can understand why he'd be second guessing himself.

He played well in the VFL last week as the player out the back of the stoppage, we had a player in and under, giving it to Sonsie as 1st receiver. He's therefore playing a game where he is generally looking forward, switch that to the AFL when he generally is focused the other way, leading out from a HFF trying to get involved that way. Its as far away from the role he plays in the VFL as possible. If they aren't going to play him in the middle, then he should be coming in off half back.

He has his flaws but the coaches are killing his career.

I feel like He is playing a role that highlights his flaws…whereas at vfl level playing on ball - he is crafty around the stoppages. High footy IQ.. has a knack of being in the right spots. He will never be the hardest bloke out there but from what I’ve seen at vfl level, physicality is not an issue - I could be wrong though. Without seeing him play the same role at senior level then who can really tell?

Coaches killing him. Need to out there egos aside.

We need Billy Beane.

  • Billy Beane: You can't play Dow midfield tonight. You'll have to play Sonsie.
  • Yze: Yeah, I don't want to go fifteen rounds, Billy. The team lineup is mine, and that's all.
  • Billy Beane: That team lineup is definitely yours. I'm just saying you can't play Dow in the middle.
  • Yze: Well, I am starting him in the middle.
  • Billy Beane: I don't think so. He plays for Cowwarr now.
  • Yze: You *traded* Dow?

Whether he makes it or not I have no doubt had he been given the same amount of chances on ball as Dow has his output by now would at least be superior to what Dow has served up.
