Tyler Sonsie

Was great again today. Looked a class above.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with his effort, it’s the lack of conditioning that does him in. Desperately needs a full pre-season to really show us what he can do.
Kicked a goal from 55m in the last. Then cramped. Gave his all today but will go to another level with a full pre season.

One of the members in a Facebook Tigers group was at the AFLW B&F last night.

Said Stack got the flick because he was a loose cannon, and that Sonsie is likely to play mostly VFL next year. Gossip from the event.
So, I posted this previously, and it didn't go down very well.
However, as the season nears an end, it's proved accurate. Hopefully Sonz's last two games change this approach.

I’m a little more bullish then most about our list going forward , no I’m not convinced we have any up and coming superstars , however I see genuine talent in all of our 2021 draftees , ad another pre season to those cubs along with the likes of Balta, Bolton, DRioli, Baker, Taranto, Hooper, Short, as well as potential improvers in Ryan, Soldo, Young, Coulthard, Bauer and Tresize plus a couple of old Superstars in Martin and Lynch and we may just be Ok

Wasn't it the same in 2016? Not many stars besides Duz, Chimp and Jack and yet we still found a way to win 3 flags.

I think its a myth we didn’t have many stars in the 2017 team , yes the forward half was a bit makeshift with role players however , Grimes , Rance, Houli we’re as good as any in their positions, Shedda was a star , Lambo if not was bloody close , then we have the 3 you’ve mentioned TF , great dynasty team no doubt , was full of stars as well though imho , we also added Lynch

I think we had stars, but not as much top end talent as others. It didn't matter, as we were disciplined, well drilled and engaged in the coaching philosophy. We were also different. Couldn’t just bring the usual to play us, and a tad bit lucky too.

I got sick of been referred to as the blue collar team most times but understandable.

Post 2017 footy world was saying we were worst team ever to win a Premiership…. that went away after the following 3 years…. and was modified to worst ever dynasty team….

Geez there's plenty on here easily satisfied. Watched most of Sonzarelli's game today, streaming dropped out a couple of times so I missed maybe 15 minutes or so all up.
First up Sonz plays about as hard as a wet marshmallow. Game after game at centre bounces he hides behind his direct opponent, then sags off as the ball is bounced hoping that somehow the ball will be dropped into his lap by our ruck, which usually leaves his direct opponent free to gather the initial clearance and Sonz breaking into space going the other way without the pill.
He was again only sometimes effective for most of today's game hovering free and loose trying to seagull the cheap dish off possession, many of which he butchered especially early in the game.
Last qtr with Port driving hard and looking to over run us, a Port player took the ball outside their forward fifty. Sonz had the perfect opportunity to wrap the bloke up in a crucial tackle but instead braced to bump the bloke and then somehow chose to simply try and lean on him instead, it was bloody pitiful.
Yes he did kick a quality goal from just outside fifty from a free kick when someone legged him, but that was by far his most impressive moment of the game and then his leg fell off.

I agree with your summary. Saw nothing to get excited about. Compare that to Shezel Wardlaw Ashcroft Daicos etc etc

The difference between a top 5 pick and a top 30 perhaps.

Better to be the owrst dynasty team as opposed to a sensational one flag wonder side.

The conditions were horrible today. I happened to be close by so watched a bit live for a quarter or so and it was very wet and greasy.
Too wet for me so I came home and watched the 2nd half on streaming
Sonsie was very good. Everyone fumbled, it was wet

True everyone fumbled on a wet n slippery day, but that's not Sonzarelli's problem.
The bloke simply tries to avoid contact like he's trying to avoid the plague.
Rarely gets a contested possession, he sometimes has contested disposals ( subtle difference ) when an opposition player happens to be near enough to get him when he's already got the pill which results in a scrappy little dinky kick or hand pass to not much.

Years ago I started calling Heppell a seagull because he was usually found hovering outside the packs waiting for the easy chip to distribute to others.
Compared to Sonz, Heppell was a raging beast inside extractor.

Available evidence does not support your opinion TM. Sonsie had 13 contested possessions last week alone. That’s ~42% of his total which is a pretty good ratio for any midfielder.

Regardless, Sonsie can find the ball better than most and his disposal is first class. In my view, he’s one of the few elite young prospects in our list and when he finally gets a full, uninterrupted pre-season he will well and truly show it.

I guess that’s why he is in the VFL -developing and working on those deficiencies. If u can see them from a live stream then I am sure the club and player are well aware of what he needs to work on to make the grade.
