Tyler Sonsie

He looks to be carrying a bad ankle he cant push off at the contests and when he got leant on fell to ground in pain a few times, so probably cut him a little slack i reckon hes playing under duress to keep the season alive for the vfl boys as theres no midfield depth

It's obviously a really dumb thing to do and I hope the Kangaroos kid is OK. I also hope the club can help him get on track.

That’ll be about it - stupid and unnecessary.

Needs to go away and have the best pre-season ever & develop an AFL level body. Huge year for him (and us) in 2024. Has the ability but does he want to be a player?
FWIW, I think this (in a twisted way) will be the ‘penny drop’ point for the lad. Very bullish despite the face plant moment today.

Hopefully the Tigers can extend their time in the finals to extend the games this year and lessen the amount of games Tyler will miss next year.

I reckon we've played the wrong chord with him this year. From early in the season we were expecting him to do stuff he struggles to do.

Remember the play to your strengths adage from 2017? It's gone out the window in recent years.

Today was a result of a build up of frustration. Not good. But he's a frustrated young kid.

He's a classy ball getter and user. Let's use that

Hopefully this is the wake up call he needs to get his career back on track. Crossroads season I suspect next year.

Started the game reasonably involved and working, I was almost looking forward to being impressed. Then simply faded out of the game for long periods with the occasional flash of involvement, just enough to keep me hoping. Then he stupidly took umbrage at some #Lolnorf bloke for a scruffy tackle n clocked the bloke.
If he could perform with 20% of the desire, intensity and competitiveness of someone like Nigel we'd have a young star on our hands. Instead it's looking more like we've got a petulant lurker.

Can't say I have seen much of his play except for some AFL cameos but it sounds like he lacks maturity as much as anything. It takes a special piece of stupidity to punch an opponent for any reason on the field of play

Here's the vision of the incident:

WATCH HERE:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the HeraldSun:

Richmond’s emerging young midfielder Tyler Sonsie faces a lengthy VFL suspension for a brain fade that saw him felling opponent Tom Cappellari on Sunday.

Sonsie’s left-handed strike to the jaw of North Melbourne player Cappellari is certain to draw a multi-week suspension that could impact the start of his 2024 season.

The Tigers won through to a VFL elimination final but he is sure to miss that clash, with the No.28 draft pick a player who Richmond believes is a key part of their midfield for the next era.

Cappellari immediately grabbed at his jaw and went to ground in the final-quarter incident, with Sonsie to be dealt with by the VFL match review system.

Under that system Paddy McCartin was handed a five-week suspension in 2021 for a vicious strike on his opponent.

Sonsie’s hit was not as forceful but could easily be a three or four-week ban.

Under VFL rules the match review panel assesses suspensions and can offer discounts if players plead guilty early.

But the off-the-ball nature of Sonsie’s strike could see him sent straight to the tribunal.

Richmond’s round 22 VFL win put them into the new-look wildcard round for the VFL, with the Roos’ percentage also seeing them through to the VFL wildcard round.

With Trent Cotchin retiring alongside Jack Riewoldt there is another midfield spot open for player like Sonsie to become AFL regulars.

But unless the Tigers’ VFL side pushes deep into the VFL finals he could face a significantly delayed start to the season.

Not much in it two weeks three at most.
Yeah, I watched it and it didn’t seem as bad as what I was expecting from the hoo ha. Still I’m sure he,ll get 4 then 3 if he pleads guilty (which he has to). The VFL have at least 1 more game this season (hopefully more) which will minimise the games he misses next season.

I'm not young, but I went to a public school. Don't get that alternative version lol
It goes something like: “he’s like a catholic school girl outside the chemist. They know the pill is in there, they’re just too scared to go in and get it.”
