It is surely a very big ask by the RFC to have Pickett either (a) move to Melbourne now and leave his wife and children and extended family behind in Perth (and not be able to play football for 8-10 weeks anyway due to injury) and miss his family badly and have no certainty of playing senior football this year or next year or (b) uproot his wife and children from Perth to Melbourne and have the difficult and expensive task of finding suitable accommodation, schooling, childcare etc and still have no certainty of playing senior football this year or next year. Just seems pretty risky overall. I would have preferred that the club drafted a younger player from Victoria, perhaps one of our VFL listed players. At the end of the day, Pickett better be damn good player for the RFC to make all of the upheaval worthwhile.

If he didn't want to do it he wouldn't have nominated.

Did you see his tape? He is damn good and he's been training hard trying to get selected for AFL for the last few years. His wife and 4 kids are coming to Melbourne soon, maybe even this weekend, so he'll soon feel very comfortable except for our cold weather! Richmond are very experienced at helping players re-locate. The fact that he has a wife and 4 kids to support is probably part of the incentive for making it at AFL so he can earn a higher wage to look after them properly and perhaps his extended family back in WA.glenn downing said:IMO it is a real concern that RFC drafted not only a 27 year old (28 at the start of next season) but a player who is from the other side of the country and who has four young children and probably has extended family in Perth. Agree.wigglyworm said:Same situation as Kelly.
Worst case he comes in and plays really well for year and has to go home for family reasons. We get a good draft pick or a homesick Victoria. Win Win I say.
