Since the current final system, the premier has come from the top 3 positions on the ladder 18 times out of 19.

1st - won it 6 times
2nd - won it 6 times
3rd - won it 6 times
7th - won it once

Interestingly, the 4th place team has never won the premiership.

This shows two things:

1. One of the best teams during the year win the premiership almost all of the time.

2. There is a signficant home ground advantage/double chance in finishing Top 4.

I know teams can win it from the 5 to 8, but is such a small probability (less than 5% I reckon)

Huge games this week to establish the Top 4.

The fact that fourth has never won under this system and 1st, 2nd and 3rd have shared it equally is really interesting, particularly when you consider that fourth has beaten first in their qualifying final equally as often as third has beaten second (five times each).

A win v Brisbane gives us 10 and that’s the best streak we’ve had since 1980.

Whatever .... we know the following facts.,

1. Next We play Bris at the Gabba.
2. We’ve never won a final outside Melbourne.
3. If we win... Our next game will be an MCG preliminary final.
4. If we lose we play an MCG Semi v GWS or bulldogs. (Go Giants!)
5. If we win the semi we play a prelim at the MCG.

That 2019 season was our 8th best home and away season. 16 wins.
We have never missed a preliminary final from this point so we’ve got two finals coming up to register a win.

Think back to R3. Rance down, injuries galore, destroyed by the pies ands giants. yet here we are 20 weeks later in the top 4 and premiership favourites. And you know what? I think we're going all the way from here.

Fantastic performance to finish third with all the team has been through this year. The best home and away performance of the past 3 years IMO. I thought we were shot part way through the season.

Now it begins again. Can't see why we can't knock off the Lions up there.
