We had two rucks up and going during our surge to flag 2019.

Also, two key forwards.

This means three things:

1) there is less need for Nank / Soldo to drift forward b/c they would just cramp jack and Tom and clutter mosquito lanes.

2) one of the rucks can routinely play a kick behind, and if need be drop back into the hole.

3) we are improving our first contest and thus winning more clearances.

The upshot of this is that we have less reliance on key defender aerialism, taking pressure off grimes and vlastuin.

Soldo, in particular, showed great strides in this area in 2019.

You can’t replace Rance, but you can structure up around his absence and emerge even better.

I’m pretty comfortable with our list going into 2020.

Rather bring back johnny manton.
Darcy Moore farts and he misses a month.
Would you (in the outer) and call out "Go Darcy"?
I wouldn't

Could have said the same about Prestia
RFC physios are the best in the business.

Rance's salary can be brought forward to other players so it won't be wasted.

Lynch for example has a higher and higher salary each year. So maybe...in a year or two we'd be really stretched.

Now we can pay him more this year and keep some breathing space.

Don’t touch Lynche’s contract.
He’ll want more. And would probably have a strong case!

Hope all is as it was portrayed but funny how all of a sudden players are now starting to send their messages after media published the no show. I guess we will find out in time what the real reason(s) are.

Unfortunately not.
As we are keeping Rance on the list, all of his contracted salary counts towards the cap (even though we are actually paying him a portion of it).

No. The contract will be reviewed and reduced as he has retired and he will not be meeting his requirements under the conditions of the original contract

He will be retained on the list for now. A final decision will be made later in the year on the list.

That's an idea, or Rance's salary will allow us to to target another free agent.

I was hoping this was the case but maybe something has changed as I was informed otherwise as we are keeping him on the list.

We are keeping him on the list for 2 reasons, if he wished to return to footy this year or next we do nothing and he comes back to us, and if he decided to return to footy but play elsewhere for whatever reason in 2021,we reserved the right to trade him.

If we wanted cap space we would need to delist him but run the risk of another club picking him up as a delisted free agent in 2020 post season to play elsewhere in 2021 and we couldn't do anything about it.

It's Tross man's life, not yours, mine or anyone else's. As long as he's comfortable n happy in the life paths that he chooses for himself then everything else is irrelevant.

Came home to find two letters in my letter box today. The first was my 2020 membership pack, the second a note from a JW door knocker. I live in Alex's area, wish I had have been home. Is it an omen?

Things may have changed but Gale said at the time "The contract will be amended accordingly, he'll stay on our list until the end of the year and then we will deal with it then"

Basic contract law has Rance stating he will train and play football. If this changes then he is in breach of the contract unless both parties agree to amend it. So the club and Rance agree that his contract will continue but at lower $ for 2020 and they will review again at the end of the season. Leaving the door open for him to return in 12 months.

The club would then take the revised contract to the AFL and get it ratified.

Same with any other contract renewal. Did the same when Jack re-negotiated his contract so we could get Lynch. He gave up some $ in the last year of his contract and signed a new three year contract to end of 2021. He got less in 2019 but more in 2020 and 2021 than he would have got if he waited. AFL ratified that new deal and the lower wage adjusted in the 2019 salary cap.

It really shouldn't be too hard to track down who was the first to make reference to Higlet's missus. They should be publicly revealed, named and shamed. Treat them as they treat people who spew racial bile at players and celebs. That's the only way to stop the gutless online anonymous behaviour
Scum geelong supporter, already been forwarded to the club, inbred methhead

Would caution against that strategy as it may upset the apple cart!

Chapter 12 of "Stronger and Bolder" gives an excellent review of Alex's commitment to his rehab and coaching duties in 2019. The interview was done early in GF week. He felt it was his duty as a leader to assist other injured players from both AFL and VFL "to prepare them not just physically but mentally, for when they got back". He also felt a duty to support the on field defenders at both AFL and VFL.
He enjoyed doing all this whilst also increasing his own rehab to the point where he ran a PB 1000m time trial during GF week. Overall he said "it's been a hard year". He had put on a brave face, trying to make people laugh but it had been a real grind. He finished really tired and was looking fwd to a holiday.
He feels really cared for at RFC so I believe, if he plays again he won't be going elsewhere.
We all understand his internal conflict with feeling exhausted and pre-season just started so I wonder if the club could have insisted on a 2 to 3 week break to refresh and work on his private life...as he has done in previous pre-seasons? Perhaps they did. Seems such a pity to throw away the solid fitness base he had worked so hard to develop in 2019.
You'll be a long time retired Alex so I hope you can re-consider your decision in a few weeks time.

I was one of his biggest supporters early doors I was wrapt we took him, he always had the tools to be a top grade defender, and I was a well entrenched DarkSider back then.

I even was his first President from memory.

Like I said back then the same rings true today "I don't associate with duds'!!

I'm not much good picking midfielders but as a lifelong key back I know a good defender when I see one.
